Santa Barbara Shootings Memorial Thread

As most of you are probably well aware of by now, a mass shooting occurred in Santa Barbara, California yesterday. 7 people, including the gunman, died. Out of respect for the family and friends of the victims I won't talk about the killer's name or family connections, since the trend of turning murderers into celebrities is often cited as one of the leading issues in the media coverage of killings. Suffice it to say that the killer was mentally ill, and that he had posted some pretty disturbing material in the past.

He was 22. This didn't have to happen. But it has now, and I feel this really resonating with me. I have some familiarity with Santa Barbara I'd rather not go into right now, but this isn't the time to point fingers, it's time for mourning the 6 victims of one young man's psychotic break. So please, no political fighting, no arguments over the views of the killer, I'd just like to focus on the people who lost their lives to this tragedy, and their family and friends. I know this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened, and it won't be the last, but I just wanted to set aside a bit of my time to make a memorial post.

This is coming from a Guy who has dealt with forms of Depression recently. I'm not gonna go into details about it, but lets just say, I really needed help.

For anyone out there who's going through some tough times, please seek help. And if anyone out there knows someone going through tough times, please help that person seek help. It may not seem like it at first, but it can really make a difference.

Several years ago, my own hometown was the scene of a senseless mass-murder by a deranged and terribly well-armed gunman. He took from us some truly fine people before wasting himself just before the cops arrived at the scene.

My sympathies to the people of Santa Barbara, and a big FUCK YOU to government officials, wherever they are, who're either running indifferent, incompetent public mental health systems, for civilians or veterans, or cutting funding for them entirely.
