Does somebody know how are called "female Santa Claus", in English ?
I know that the Santa Claus is the older man with white beard,
but is it existing a special name in English for female "Santa Claus" ?
(I'm French, by the way, that's why i ask the question).
Thank you for your answer 🙂

Besides all the funny replies (which I appreciate), in case your question is serious, there is really no such thing. Saint Nicole or some such I do not believe is registered anywhere. Santa Claus is the American for St. Nicholas, as he is called in Europe - and to the best of my knowledge, he was a guy

True, but he is also often referred to as "Father Christmas", and is then sometimes depicted as having a wife as well (though never any children).

The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in Patara, a village in what is now Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus' words to "sell what you own and give the money to the poor," Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to the those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.

So no there is no Mrs. Claus. He was a bishop That did great things for the people. How he came to be an elf and such dates back to the prodestant reformation and the puritans not wanting to bring the the tradition as it venerated a Saint from the catholic church. Colonial Germans in Pennsylvania held the feast of St. Nicholas, and several accounts do have St. Nicholas visiting New York Dutch on New Years' Eve. Patriots formed the Sons of St. Nicholas in 1773, not to honor Bishop Nicholas, but rather as a non-British symbol to counter the English St. George societies. This St. Nicholas society was similar to the Sons of St. Tammany in Philadelphia. Not exactly St. Nicholas, the children's gift-giver.

After the American Revolution, New Yorkers remembered with pride the colony's nearly-forgotten Dutch roots. John Pintard, influential patriot and antiquarian, who founded the New York Historical Society in 1804, promoted St. Nicholas as patron saint of both society and city. In January 1809, Washington Irving joined the society and on St. Nicholas Day that year he published the satirical fiction, Knickerbocker's History of New York, which made numerous references to a jolly St. Nicholas character. This was not a saintly bishop, rather an elfin Dutch burgher with a clay pipe. These delightful flights of imagination are the origin of the New Amsterdam St. Nicholas legends: that the first Dutch emigrant ship had a figurehead of St. Nicholas; that St. Nicholas Day was observed in the colony; that the first church was dedicated to him: and that St. Nicholas comes down chimneys to bring gifts. Irving's work was regarded as the "first notable work of imagination in the New World."

Not until the satruday evening post started producing pictures of what we now in america think of Santa Claus did he adorn a wife and a workshop full of elves.

now back to the topic in hand what is the name of that video that comes from or who produced it... that was a very nice clip?

Thanks, Jyudan -- I found that especially fascinating because I didn't grow up in North America and am therefore not familiar with some of the American traditions.

This is the great thing about this forum, you just never know what kind of great information you will get! Of course half of it may be complete crap...but I give him a "A" for effort!

oh this is from HangTenProductions... the tickler is Sommer, she's got some long slender feet

I once read a small piece in a kiddies newspaper (The Funday Times, it's called, believe it or not), that said "Saint Nicholas - patron saint of children, pirates, and pawnbrokers".

Thank you for your help 🙂 I like especially the funny "Santa Clausette" or "Mary Christmas" :-D
So OK, Santa Claus hasn't got wife (but he has a life, as i seen).
But on the clip posted, girls in red looking like Santa Claus should have a special name, no ? I believed the name was "Holy something" (I don't mind that "female Santa Claus" have existed or not in real life or Ameraican folklore).

Great clip. Perhaps you could do one where the elves tickle Ms. Claus too.
