I was going to post this as a reply to the music post, but I wanted to know if anyone else was into her.

I had the pleasure of seeing her on New Years Eve on a PBS special concert from South Africa. (YAAAAY PBS!) I was awed by her in every way.

Yeah, she's cute, but not in that "Damn, I'd love to strap her to a table" sort of way. (Ok, I would, but you know me...). She just has this heart-melting lok about her, and those eyes!...

But what really stole my heart was her angelic voice. I've rarely heard anyone sing with such passion and perfection. She has a range that should be illegal! What a virtuoso! I sat through the whole concert feeling my heart chip into little pieces every time she opened her mouth. I'd rather listen to Sarah belch than sit through another "song" by today's female pop "singers".

I think I'm in love...🙄

Angelic indeed...

Sarah Brigthman's voice is lovely....as her ex-husband well knows. If you want a good recording, check out the original London cast of "Phantom" where she plays the quintessential Christine...

As for her looks...can't imagine her being married to Sir Andrew, but hey....whatever makes you happy

Pure...

Solid voice....great range, and superb style. My fav soprano.

Hmmm...first the books, then the music. 🙂

I remember picking up a cassette of her years and years ago. It was called, if I remember correctly, THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY. I fell in love with her voice. It's divine. You might peek into it if you don't have it. She's singing the songs that were great...but left out of productions.

I've liked her ever since. Much more talented than the "singers" whose ummm "art????" is shoved at us currently.

Nah, Q, I'd classify her laugh as more of a mezzo-soprano tone. Now, her SHRIEK on the other hand.......

Hi Jo!!!

Kimmie

seeing this thread made me wonder one thing..... "who the hell are they talking about?"

so I went to CDNow, listened to the album jo reccommended and wasn't impressed by the songs but was by the voice.... (not a big show tunes fan)

however, I gave her classics album a listen and liked what I heard... I haven't got enough of this kind of music on my shelf, so I ordered it....

thanks for a good reccommendation, as I was rather bored with my Cd's and looking for something completely different.

on a similar note, if you have never heard Loreena McKennitt, you should give her a listen, she sings with a celtic flavor and has some pretty awesome albums....

party on wayne!

Hi Kim!!!
Hi Q~~~!!!
Hi Mr McGee. 😉!!!

Yes, I do tend to hit the high range when I laugh. And yes, you are correct again with the shriek....it has no true ending...lol. Rather like a flute trilling into the night. If Q's luckly....hehe one day he'll hear for himself how true said rumors are. 😉

Kim, you, on the other hand, remind me of vibrato on french horn!!! LOL Constant, steady and riiiight there on pitch. I can't keep it there....I'm all over the place. You're a wonder, among other things...hehehe

Yes, Slappy, she does have a beautiful voice. That is what led me to her other work. I am not a big fan of show tunes either. I happened upon her tape in a $5 bin..and you never know what discoveries you can get in those. Kinda like most of my friends...they are all irregulars too...hehe

I love the Celtic sounds so thanks for the head's up there. I've actually been trying to find a recording of a song called CLAIM ON MY HEART. I heard it ten years ago and haven't found it since. It's celtic in feel and the woman is an amazing singer. Happen to know it?

Jo

Keyboardia Contagia?

Yup...just some days the keys don't listen, ya know? Happy to be of help..I have a bunch of semi-useless info that sits up there above my shoulders. I miss Trivial Pursuit...it made me popular (well...almost). Now I have to hang around bars with trivia nights if I want to exercise my mastery of crappy useless knowledge...too smoky and the liquor is watered!

BTW, Jo, it's MY turn to make a wish now..lol..so if you wake up feeling a bit...restrained, don't panic, it's just magic! :wow: Q

Hehe...Q-Sir,
Tickle Magic. Isn't it grand? So I guess you CAN read minds~!

Trivial Pursuit....Millenium Edition. Santa gave it to me. Let's see....every time you land on a quesiton for a pie, you must answer corectly or be tickled every round until...hmm..how about until the end of the game? LOL! Easy rules~ 😉

I've ordered the Sarah Brightman CD and the Sara Hickman CD in the last ten minutes since Mr. McGee mentioned it! YAY!! LOVE the Web. 🙂

Jo...who is VERY susceptible to the power of suggestion. :wow:

🙂)))))

Well...Loreena sounds a LOT like Enya! Happy you spent your $ and helped stimulate the economy Jo...among other things. You seem like quite a stimulating gal!

LOL Q..I'm not sure whether or not that was a compliment or an insult..hehe 😉 I'll take it as a compliment though. so, THANKS!~

So, Q...do you like the style of music Ms Brightman sings, or are you just a fan of the quality voice?

Jo

Some...

She has performed a multitude of songs that range widely, so it's a bit difficult to answer that fully. I LOVE Time To Say Goodbye...it would be on my All Time top 10 list...does that help? Some of the other things she has done weren't as noteworthy, whether that was due to the arrangement or her vocals is a matter of opinion. Has she ever done any of the Man Of LaMancha -Dulcinea songs? It would help me to compare her with others who have performed these...i tend to use them as a standard for sopranos in general outside of opera.

As for the other comments...always compliments, never complaints Ms Jo! Don't even debate the thought process over here...lol...assume the best! 😉 Q

Blimey charlie!

I cant stick this type of singing myself, its opera singing for people who dont like opera, its pop singing for people who dont go dont go to gigs, its .....well it just falls between genres and ends up being nothing in particular, it just lacks conviction for me and it gives me the same queesy feeling you get watching your parents disco dance at weddings.
