While I am not a religious man, allow me to ask you all to say a prayer for "Roy"

Half of the flamboyant magical duo is apparently fighting for his life after being viciously mauled by one of his tigers while performing at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

I know that Siegfried and Roy are quite often the brunt of an easy joke, but this time we are talking about a human life. Let's all hope he pulls through.

I heard a report last night that he's stable and has had an artificial voice box implanted. Since that's an elective thing, he must be doing fairly well to have had the surgery for it. In any case, the prayers continue.

Let me play devil's advocate here and say that Roy WAS whacking this proud beast in the nose with a microphone and the animal had just plain had enough. I'm not one of those PETA nuts by any means but i'm VERY anti-circus and anti any situation where an animal is ripped out of it's natural habitat and abused into "performing."
If the tiger is destroyed, I for one am gonna be royally pissed.

As opposed as I am to animal exhibitionism for our pleasure, I believe Siegfreid and Roy genuinely cherished these animals, but after 30 years of playing with fire, one of them got burnt. Badly.

I'm sure on more than one occasion they have looked at each other, during a performance, as if to say, "Geez, what a way to make a living", as the audience gasped in amazement at their apparent mystical abilities to control wild beasts.

What a bunch of hooey. We, the public, also share this blame and carry the responibility of how we enslave other species for our enjoyment. If the majority of us were opposed to such cruelty, the Siegfreid and Roy's of this world would have to find another way to mete out a living, or at least another way to entertain us.

Btw, Von Stimpy, I had heard that the microphone bashing occurred after the tiger had had Roy in his grasp. Course, I could be wrong...

All reports I have read and heard say that he was hitting the tiger in the nose with the mike because it was not obeying his commands. Tragic event, hopefully both Roy and the Tiger will come through in good shape.

i also heard that the tiger had roy's arm in his grasp prior to the microphone incident.

i also heard that roy is not blaming the animal for this. thats a good start. hopefully he'll be okay, and the tiger can be placed in a better environment.

this was the first time this particular tiger was made part of the show in public. could have been nerves.

The tiger bit his arm before being hit with the microphone. The initial hit was a warning...kinda like hitting a dog on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. Unfortunately, it aggitated the tiger more rather than backing her off. Roy asked as he was being taken to the hospital that the tiger not be destroyed. But, I fear the authorities may see things differently. They've been good to their animals over the years. But, I agree that captivity isn't a great way to show affection.

Now, the tiger that had to be taken down in Manhattan over the weekend after attacking his owner is another story. How does anyone justify keeping an animal like that in a little apartment? That's just plain cruel...not to mention stupid.

Fortunately, both owners are showing improvement.
