Just out of curiosity: As we get closer to Halloween, are there any songs, bands, or whole albums that really get you in the spirit for fright night?

Right now I'm listening to Souixie and the Banshees' "Trick or Treat", which always gets me into that proper mood horror mood. It's a perfect day for it, as it's all stormy and dark outside.

As far as bands go, a great garage rock band that never fails to get me going is Gein & the Graverobbers. They rarely even use vocals, just wicked good guitar riffs. Give `em a try!

Just all the spooky sounds...always fun to listen to alone...late at night...in the dark...... O__O Okay, maybe not fun, but I still do! Haha!

If you want some scary spooky sounds try tracking down some soundtracks from mid 70's to early 80's horror / thriller movies. Those movies have some great creepy synth music. For example, Dawn of the Dead, Scanners, The Children, Halloween etc. are some great ones. Man I love that synth.

I just watched Scanners today; a great Cronenberg film. I love the aura of those movies.

Here are some sound loops I made in FL Studio for a horror game I never even got started making.

I agree! Great stuff to be had from that era! And you're right. Usually, the synth is all you need!

In recent days, I've picked up a couple of solid Halloween treats:

Roky Erickson & the Aliens "The Evil One"
Bauhaus "In the Flat Field"

Both cover the horror-rock bases quite well. :ggrin:

Do you live in an old, creaky place, AngelofDarkness? I love all the staples of the genre, too: the creaking doors, the hooting owls(natch!), the evil laughter, the works!

Well, there is onlyt one sound that frightens the hell out of me.

IN silence, anf you're walking alone on an arctic tundra, and you hear, a number of loud cracks.

That's indeed bad, but then you hear the far-off howls of the wolf-pack, steadily closing in on you as you try to cross the iced-over lake! :grind_tee

There is a really good one one the violent films CD that I always listen to to get in the mood for halloween except for the fact that halloween for me has lost its meaning.

Rick Wakeman is a totally fantastic musician. I loved his Arthurian stuff. Great pick! :ayyy:

Been listening to a great surf/garage-rock band out of Portugal called Dr. Frankenstein. Get a load of some of their song titles:

01....At The Crime Scene
02.I Was a Teenage Astro-Monster
03.V-8 Death Race
04.She-Devils' Stroll
05.Black Clouds On The Horizon
06.Tiki Mug (With Cyanide)
07.The Spy From Madrid
08.The Creeper
09.Vem (Alem de Toda a Solidao)
10.Am 666
11.The Savage
12.Music To Murder Girls By
13.Dance Of The Mating Mermaids
14.Goldfinger

You might not immediately think of surf-rock as going together with Halloween, but surprisingly, it's a perfect fit! 😛aw:

Not such a long shot. Psycobilly isn't far off from what Dr. Frankenstein sounds like. If you like Dr. Frankenstein try Nekromantix and Zombie Ghost Train.

Ah! That's the style I was trying to think of when I posted. Thanks, poppameth! I need to look into those you mentioned. Love that shit. :ayyy:

I can't believe I forgot about this. This is one of my old MySpace pages:

http://www.myspace.com/liquidnecroticaband

I don't really do anything at MySpace anymore, but at one point the band that I never really had (It was me an a co-worker, making this crap electronically, at work no less) put this page together with some of our stuff. Check out Flayed Duck in particular for something kind of creepy hippy sounding.

All good, but I dug that opener the most(the "THHB Theme"). It's got that whole classic pipe-organ "Phantom of the Opera"-feel going on. 😎
