Not very effectively. Taking the bondage component out of the equation for a minute, self-tickling is not impossible (for everyone) like is often stated, but it's usually not as strong of a reaction as if someone else were doing it to you. This is largely due to the brain's predictive and self-perception features. If you find that you are someone who can tickle themselves, keep these things in mind:
- Soft-style tickles are more likely to create a reactive sensation than hard tickles.
- Quick, erratic movements will be more likely to cross the brain's threshold for unpredictability.
- Don't watch yourself do it. Close your eyes. The less information your brain has about what's going on, the more likely it will work.
- imaginingg things as real makes them feel more real. Get yourself into the right mental space for it.
- Certain places are more likely to be effective than others. Experimentation will help discover those. It's not always the same as if someone else were tickling you, though the feet tend to still be the most common place that people can self-tickle.
- Sometimes using an implement like a brush, or other tool, can make it more difficult for your brain to track and predict motions
- If you can get into the mental state of feeling vulnerable, that is one of the secret ingredients. Even with a partner, if I don't feel vulnerable, I don't feel ticklish.
I remember several years ago now, on Youtube there were a few educational or "cool, check this out" kind of videos where all you saw were hands and you were supposed to put your hands on your stomach and follow along with the motions. For most people, this would create a tickling sensation as though someone else was tickling them because even though the viewer would be making the motions, the predictive element of the brain had a hard time with it because it wasn't so much deciding what would happen next as it was mimicking the motion.
If you want bondage with this, that's a different animal. The point of bondage generally being restriction of motion, it makes it much harder to do anything to yourself. You're looking at needing a tickle robot here, which only exist in a few mad scientists' basements–I don't think they're on the market. Though, you could try being creative with automating different things. For example, I've read where people have used fans to do this.
- Example 1: Use a box fan with soft long ribbons attached to the grating or slats. When the fan is on, the ribbons flutter outward in erratic patterns and can tickle
- Example 2: Attaching ribbon, strings, or similar things to the ends of the blades on a ceiling fan. Turn the fan on low and position yourself under it so that the chosen long draped material or strings can drag lightly across the body.
Just be careful when doing self-bondage and independently from that, be careful when creating anything that is automated. You're only looking for one thing to go right, but a million things can go wrong.
My personal interest in this is mostly from my past when I was exploring new and creative bondage ideas with no one to partner with. Having some knowledge of electromechanical engineering, I had played around with the idea of a tickle robot a few times, but quickly realized that the tickling sensation, while a very important component to a good tickling experience, wasn't the only important one. For me personally, there is something irreplaceable about sharing it with another person, so I mostly abandoned the idea.
