Hi,

Something just happened with my computer, and I dont know how to fix it.
I have Comcast high speed internet, and I am online all the time, and never turn my computer off, except during a Thunderstorm. I have to click my bottom taskbar, at the Start button on my computer, to access Internet Explorer, to click it on, and get to the TMF, etc. Somehow, my blue bottom taskbar, that is supposed to be on the bottom, ended up on it's side, with the start button on top, in the right hand corner of my screen, and the time and date on the bottom half. I need to fix this, or I cannot access the internet, and I dont know how. I've tried restarting my computer several times, and unplugging it, to see if it would undo whatever the hell I did, to no avail. My entire computer is messed up. If anyone would have advice on how to get rid of this application, to put the toolbar back where it belongs, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

I just spoke to a tech at Comcast, who told me that he doesnt know how to unlock it. Apparently, I did something, that locked up the taskbar, and it wont move. I can access the computer, but the windows are all messed up. He said I will probably have to call a computer tech, but money is an issue. If anyone would have an idea of how to fix this, it would be appreciated.

Right-click somewhere in the blue area of the taskbar and look for "Lock the Taskbar". If it has a check next to it you need to click once on it to remove the check. Once the check is removed/confirmed to be unchecked already simply left-click somewhere in the blue area between the start button and the area where the time is and, while holding the left click button down, drag your mouse to the left and to the bottom of your screen. The taskbar should move itself back to the bottom. Once done, right-click on the taskbar and click once on "Lock the Taskbar" to put the check next to it. This will keep this from happening again.

HDS, thanks for the advice, my friend. I tried what you said. The lock the taskbar function is not checked. I tried dragging my mouse in the manner you recommended, to no avail. Something else must be stopping it, in the function of the computer, because the tech at Comcast, as well as you, and two others, told me to try the same thing you suggested, all to no avail.
I have no clue what the heck I did. I may need to get a tech here if I cant get it myself, or someone cant come up with a workable solution for me. Thanks again HDS.

One other thing, HDS. When I get to the bottom of the taskbar, I get a no smoking sign symbol. I reported this to Comcast. They told me that there is something, some function I activated, that is not allowing the taskbar drag to take effect. God knows what the heck I did!

We can try two things before shelling out the dough, eh? First it something to try and give me a picture of what you see exactly.

-First, minimize any open programs or windows you have open (Or close them; whichever).
-Now, look near where the time is and see if you see a small arrow of sorts. If it points upward/outward from the time, click it so that all icons near the time are visible.
-That done, let us make a screencap. Look for the ALT and PrintScreen/PrtSc keys. While holding down the ALT key hit the PrtSc key. Release both.
-Open Paint. It should be located in Start>All Programs>Accessories.
-Paste the screencap in by either using the CTRL+V shortcut or using the Edit>Paste method. An image of your screen should appear.
-Go to File and click "Save". Save the image as a type "JPEG" and then upload it to the TMF. Perhaps I can see what the trouble is.

You may wish to repeat the above with any open programs closed and the "Task Manager" open to show what processes are running. To do this close all open programs and windows. Then hit CTRL, ALT and DEL/Delete at the same time. A little window will pop up. Make sure you are on the "Processes" tab and have maximized that window. Repeat the screencap process.

The second idea involves safe mode. If a program, rather than a setting, is keeping the taskbar there then booting into safe mode may disable that program and enable you to move the taskbar using the method Comcast and myself offered. To boot into safe mode restart your computer as normal. Right as the computer begins its boot process (Lots of white text and/or a corporate logo like Dell or something) begin to press the F8 key over and over again, once or twice a second or so. Eventually you should be taken to a screen asking how you want to boot. Look for plain old "Safe Mode" (Safe Mode with Networking if you want the internet, although it is not necessary and may cause additional programs to start). A new boot process will begin and you'll be taken to safe mode. Try shifting the task bar there, eh?

Thanks, HDS. I'll try what you said tomorrow. I've rebooted my computer about five times tonight, between this crap, and a storm that I had to shut down for. I dont want to shut it down again, because, I had a lot of trouble turning it back on. I will check this thread tomorrow, and try the steps you recommended.
