Setting up an autoresponder

I've just been given the task of setting up and auto-responder that send an attachment as well an email message. Has anyone here ever done this? i'd welcome any feedback.

What sort of system are you working with? If you have access to the mailserver and it runs a Unix or Linux distribution, you could program procmail to perform this task, although it does not appear to be a simple matter.

Thanks for responding. To put this in perspective, everything you said just went way over my head like a big, fast airplane!

I've been using services like allforms to generate automatic email responses... but none of those contained an attachment. I was hoping there would be an easy way to do this, but I may have to settle for sending an email auto response that includes a link to the document.

Ah, I see what you're trying to do. You want to make a form users can fill out that then sends a message with an attachment, yes? This can be created, certainly. I would know how to write such a program more than where to direct you to find one ready-made, I'm afraid. Hopefully someone else has a premade solution.

That's okay. The more I've read about this, the more I've seen articles suggesting that such auto responders aren't a great idea. Their messages can be intercepted as spam. I might be better off to include a message with a link.
