No, a National Day of Remebrance would be better

Similar to the way in which we observe the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. Save the Holidays for celebrating. They tried to hit at our financial epicenter, what better tribute than to conduct business as usual, as if to say "you hurt us but can never stop us".

I am in total agreement with PH. (However, I have a feeling that this is more of what TIL had in mind to begin with. Am I right, TIL?) To make it a day of rememberance would show the due respect without turning things into the raucous circus/party atmosphere that has come to symbolize other days. There IS something to celebrate...the fact that we remain and carry on. But, IMHO, that is best done by living our lives and caring for our fellow man just a bit more...and SHOWING it in what we say and do. That goes for every day...not just an anniversary observance.

If it's a holiday it should be a holiday for our fire fighters and police and safety workers who risked their lifes or lost them to help save so many people. When you consider the number of people who are normally in that building it's amazing that the losses weren't in the 10's of thousands. That's due to good construction, good safety measures and incredible team work to get people out and away from the buildings.

I agree with PH that a day of rememberance would be the best way to show our respect and pride in all they did to help so many others as well as remember the civilians lost in the tragedy.

NO way.

A National Holiday for a day of ultimate tragedy?
I think NOT.

Most people are trying to forget this dark day in our history but NEVER will.
A day of PERSONAL rememberence, yes. Let each individual take that days' anniversary and deal with it in their OWN way.

Most National Holidays if not ALL of them are days of celebration.
One does not celebrate a tragic event.
Not in THIS country at least.

To make this a National Holiday would be too much and definatly inappropriate.:sowrong: :wow: :sowrong:

You might as well call it Bin Ladan Day.:sowrong:

Not like a 4th of July type of holiday, but, would you really want to work in New York (if you do) on Sept 11 anymore? :sowrong: 🙁

....(thats just my opinion)

If I lived in New York I would definitely still like to work there on any September 11th. Mostly to honor those we lost.

That would prove to the terrorists that they can't keep the fine people in this wonderful nation down. What better way to show the world how we can bounce back from such a horrific event than to push through and get on with life.

No...

It's not really appropriate...we have enough "holidays" that need revamping before we start adding more. IMO.... Q

Fourth of July

TIL makes a good point, how many people died for american independance? and why should that occasion be a holiday? and yet there is little support for sept 11 being a holiday. I suspect the answer lies in the passage of time and how it may affect perception of events from afar. Personally I hope it is a day of rememberance but also a day of bussiness as usual.

I think red indian is right on target.Memorial Day And Veterans'Day are not exactly happy, lighthearted moments despite the ways many spend them.At certain times even Labor Day can get a little hairy, especially during hard economic times or political battling. We'll just have to wait and see how this one develops.
