Old age can be so beautiful..and then so tragically sad...last night two of David's brothers called him about their mom...she lives in florida..David's dad had died in 07 of a massive heart attack...we were just there at Christmas..she seemed fine..how quickly that can turn around...they suspect she has alzheimers.. and two of the brothers are going to fly down there to talk to her next week..they want David to be one..if she does indeed have it, it's progressed terribly fast..and she's losing a great deal of weight..she's 76...

Tell them not to despair. They shall be reunited with their loved ones on sweet day under a sunny sky in flowered fields with crystal clear brooks.

thank you all..and Venray soo nice to see you again...

anyway...David talked to his mom last night..and she seemed ok...but these things come and go i guess...he isn't flying down after all..but they did assign him the task of calling her to tell her about one of his brothers coming down to see her..i guess they felt he could do it with more finesse...and he did..he didn't say why or anything..her best friend has noticed several changes..like when they pulled up to the pharmacy they always visit...David's mom said she's never been here before...his brother will try to get her to take some tests locally first..the thing about his brothers..they are so ready to give up, talking about where she will live etc...until it progresses to the point where she can no longer function alone..i don't see why she cant' continue to live where she does now...she loves it there...this big weight loss however is something to consider..

It sounds like Alzheimer's to me.This can get pretty bad so I really hope they can get her the help she needs and keep her as comfortable as possible.

My grandam had deepening dementia in the year before she died. I saw her once in that span (it's a 400 mile one way to the old home town).

My dad said it was the most lucid she'd been in months. Thank God for that, as it was the last time I saw her.

I was hard, but the odd thing was, her death wasn't sad. She was released from her prison and free again. Unlike when my grandpa died which wrecked me, I felt relieved when she died. Death ceases to be the worst part.

Call me if you need to talk, Izzy.

Hang in there Izzy. I lost one grandparent to it. There are great support groups and special retirement facilities that can care for her all the way through all the stages.

yes that's true, Hawk....David's brother is flying down there today...she thinks it's just a nice visit..then on tuesday, his older brother is flying down..to me..although i suppose it's necessary...it seems like they are ganging up on her...and then they will first try and get her tested locally..then the one brother wants to drive her back to texas for more tests..that's where he lives...

sorry

HI Izzy

Sorry i'am late picking this up i don't visit often, sorry to hear about david's mother, i would advise not doing too much yourselfs but get proper advice and counciling, i say this because its a complicated illness, and my main concern would be health and safty issues in the home, like going out leaving doors open, switching on gas and not ignighting etc don,t want to cause alarm, but she should have someone there, i don't know what the system is in us but i should start phoning and getting advice, you and david don't seem to have a trouble free run for long i wish i was nearer, but remember i'am here for you just email or pm me, will keep in touch lovely lady, take care of david he has been a good hubby to you. hugs
