As a follow-up to my "Avatar" thread, I now want to do a siggy one. Why do you have the signature that you do? What meaning is behind it, if any?

I'll start off with myself again, but I won't go too deep into it. My quote is from Nietzsche, perhaps one of my favourite philosophers. The quote has to do with the thought of free-willed individuals living within a society that dictates what is normal and proper. Well, this is, of course, a very basic idea of what he's talking about, but I find it rather fitting for an environment such as TT. I see no problem with who we are or what we do, but it seems society at large supposedly does.

What is it that perpetuates this idea? Society for thinking it's wrong, or us that go along with it? That is at the heart of Nietzsche's work. To what extent can you be yourself before you succumb to the ideals of society?

Well, I have three "quotes" instead of a sig. I'll give a brief rundown for you.

1) In highschool I used to say this a lot. Mostly in front of people I didn't know. It's amazing how easy it is to freak out a bunch of preppy teens. Like shooting fish in a barrel, really. I would simply walk outside, stare up at the sky, say "what a lovely day for a plane crash" and walk away to the sound of hushed voices behind me. If I dared to turn around, the expressions on their preppy faces was always the same. They looked at me as if I was an uncaged lion or something.

2) This is simply a play on "Paul's"(from the novel/movie/mini-series called Dune) mantra: "I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer that brings total oblivion." I added Rod Stewart instead of certain words for two reasons. FIRST, I think the guy is a damn joke. And SECOND...Well, I pretty much hate Rod Stewart, so I guess I don't need a second reason.

3) It was a joke I made up off the top of my head when I was trying to decide what I should put down for my third signature quote.

My sig evolved from my self-invented title (Ab-Mistress, meaning I'm a 'ler who likes tummies, or "abs"), combined with Nessie's and HDS' idea of posting a Rules link in their sigs. My pic was an attempt to encourage people to be nice, lol, but once everything is calmer here, I want to return to using my beloved animated bunny .gif 🙂

Mine is latin for "Never tickle a sleeping dragon" Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut.. it's only because I saw it as someone's IRC quit message and decided to steal it ^.^;;;

My first entry cracked me up since..seriously...do people honestly do flips in the air while shoving sprite in their friends face while singing? Or does a girl walk down the street singing about how wonderful life is while handing out coke out of a handbag? What about Dr. Pepper and people throwing easter egg grass everywhere? What does that have to do with a goddamned thing?

The other...well...you get the idea.

I will note that it is also the motto for Hogwarts. 😛

AR I have always loved you sig, btw!

The jumbled mess that is my siggy is pretty self explanatory, though I change it rather frequesntly. Currently it is a banner to my art forum, my name in Japanese which Jay helped me with, and links to rules and stuff. Exciting, no? 😛

It is?? I didn't know that! Closer inspection of the hogwarts seal is now called for!!

Oh and, ehem *clears throat, readies wand, points at Nessy just for spite* Rectusempra!!

LOL I figured that's where you got it from, silly girl. 😛 😀
Here is a piccy for you... 😛

The first part of mine is just something that I laugh my ass off at every time i hear it. The second part, is just a simple reminder not to get too worked up. Life's short, so have fun.

I just realized that I didn't have a signature up, so I made one after I saw this post.

It's three different quotes. "come out, come out where ever you are" was said by the good witch Glinda to the munchkins in the Wizard Of Oz. The other one, "Closets are for Clothes, is a gay pride t-shirt, as is "Don't Hide Your Pride", so I merged them into on long gay pride signature.

Ahh yes, I meant to compliment you on yours as well, crazybob...cracked me up 😀

Well, mine is from hellsing manga(in anime, the quote doesn't go exactly like that, but the episode is almost the same), when Valentine brothers attack the mansion. The elder brother arrogantly attacks Alucard, claiming to be more powerful than him. My sig is Alucard's call for the weakling to use his full powers(since Alucard believed him to be an elder vampire), just before he finishes him off.

Mine refers to my Iowa Hawkeyes, esp. the wrestling squad (hey, 17 NCAA championships can't be ignored...)

the other line refers to my story writing..which has been sparse but will increase now that my exam is over with...I would post more of them but they keep getting bought...😉

The links to rules and such in my sig are a stolen idea. Stolen from Nessonite they were. And she stole them from TT. 😛 The 'titles' below that are merely the product of my self-deprecating, depressed insanity. The image itself I suppose symbolizes my anime leaning.

Mine is also latin, and says "I think, therefore I think I am". My own variation on the classic saying (in the age of the film "The Matrix", can YOU be sure you're real? 😛 lol).

Mine should be pretty self-explanatory. I'm terribly obsessed with the heavy metal band, Slayer =P. However, I'm still trying to figure out why my signature won't show itself beneath my posts..... :/

The quote about freedom I fell in love with the first time I heard it. It matches my political and philosophical views.

The second quote I first heard from one of my high school English teachers. The principal of one of his former schools posted that quote in big letters on the door of the staff room. It signifies that the battle between generations is really a timeless battle, and that maybe the next generation isn't as bad as the previous generation thinks. I liked the irony that Socrates said that about 2400 years ago.
