According to the forecast for New York City on www.weather.com.

There is supposed to be a significant snowstorm of more than 12 inches from Monday night into Tuesday.

We know that weather forecasts can change several days away.

However..

When New York City experienced the record breaking blizzard on January 23, 2016, where two feet to two and a half feet of snow fell,
the weather forecasts predicted that storm several days in advance, and their forecasts were 100% accurate.

It will be interesting to see if this significant snowstorm that is being forecast from Monday night into Tuesday, materializes as forecast.

And ironically it might just miss Broome County once again. It's not often being a resident of this god forsaken county in NY state pays off. LOL.

The weather forecaster on WPVI in Philly said there is supposed to be a foot of snow or more in Philly as well. www.weather,com also says a foot of snow or more for Philly.

Sometimes, and I'm not saying this will happen.

My experience has been, is that when the forecast is "Hyped up", as I like to say, of a major snowstorm, said snowstorm does not pan put nearly as major as expected.

Every forecast I've heard, however, says that this storm is going to be major.

With it being three days away, it still has time to develop or change.

Usually, "Winter Storm Watches", and "Winter Storm Warnings" are issued 24 to 36 hours in advance, so by late on Sunday, we should have a better idea of what will happen with this storm.

The latest forecast for NYC on www.weather.com has deteriorated.

On Tuesday, they are forecasting quote.

"A foot or more" of snow during the day on Tuesday, in addition to the 1 to 3 inches predicted on both Monday night,. and Tuesday night.

Once again, while this forecast sounds ominous, with it being three days away, we'll see how it plays out.

"The boom has just been lowered" so to say.

On www.weather,.com

A Blizzard Watch has been issued for NYC from Monday night through Tuesday, for anywhere between 12 to 18 inches of snow.

They must feel NYC is really going to get walloped.

Usually it's a "Winter Storm Watch" that is issued two to three days before the storm.

I know that "Blizzard" just means heavy snow and high winds.

Here we go!

Sorry to hear that. We haven't had a winter here worth talking about. I wore one of my heavy winter coats one day last December, but only until around noon. You all be careful.

We had one snowstorm here in Feb .. about 10 inches.

Besides that, it's been very mild. In the last two weeks, we've had days in the 60s.

March can be a very unpredictable month in NYC. We can have warm, spring like weather. However, we've also had snow many times.

Hopefully it will not be too bad. The area in Illinois I am in is calling for two to six inches in the next twenty four hours. In my home town in PA,they are calling for five to eight inches.

Zod, NYC is supposed to get it much worse than PA because it is a coastal storm.

It would seem from the forecast that NYC is going to get at least 12 or more inches of snow.

It will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

We're supposed to get 8 inches or so in Broome County, NY, at the rate of an inch an hour, unless the storm pulls a "Ha ha, fooled ya!" and misses us.

I listen to this Canadian AM radio station (CHML, Hamilton, Ontario) and apparently they're predicting a snowpocalpyse there as well.

The final boom was just lowered on.

www.weather.com.

A Blizzard Warning has been issued for NYC.

The forecast calls for 12 to 20 inches of snow.

Since temps will be close to freezing, there will be some mixing close to New York City and coastal areas, which is where I live.

The 20 inches will be in areas further inland.

During the 2016 Blizzard where NYC got hammered with two to two and a half feet of snow, temps were very cold,, and it remained all snow.

If we have to experience a major wibnter storm, it is almost more.. feasible if it remains colder, and stays all snow, because, when the temps are warmer, the snow is heavy and wet, or it mixes with ice, such is when there is more of a chance of power lines snapping, and power outages.

Here we go!

We just got dumped on in Wisconsin, probably close to a foot where I live. I haven't paid much attention to the weather reports, but probably the same storm moving east?

Yes. It's also going to get "Energized" by a coastal storm, and will "Blow up" into what's called a "Nor Easter" (A name for a storm in the North East) to dump
1 to 2 feet of snow anywhere from New England to about DC. NYC is supposed to get hammered with anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of snow, depending on location.

Ouch! The only positive here was the snow was very light and fluffy. My snowblower made quick work of it. I cant even move the wet heavy stuff with it half the time. Be safe and stay warm friends!

It's very windy now... Snowfall forecast for NYC expected to be 8 to 16 inches.

Today is a day to stay inside.

The only. "Positive" to this whole scenario, for myself at least, and probably others who live in NYC. .
'
I lived in Lancaster, PA for 13 years, as most on the forum know.

In Lancaster, we would often lose power. This happened one Christmas Day with a heavy, wet snow, our power was gone for something like 12 hours.

In NYC. (Knock on Wood) There are rarely power outages. During Hurricane Sandy in 2012, we had 100 mph winds, the power stayed on.

Tomorrow is supposed to be brutally cold. (Highs not above 30 F), and very windy. It will be difficult for them to plow/remove the snow. The roads and streets will likely be icy.

Apparently, the winter event will not be as "Severe" as originally forecast.

The Blizzard Warning has just been canceled for NYC.

Changed to

"A Winter Weather Advisory"

For a total of 4 to 8 inches of snow/sleet, etc.

As I said before.. sometimes forecasts are what I like to call "Hyped up"

Which is what happened with this.

This is a winter event, but nowhere near as significant or such as January 23, 2016.
