First post, welcome all critiques especially from the established artists. Would like to know how I could improve my technique. thanks! also, how do you make the file open at a smaller size. the sketch was done on a 9" x 12" pad

Welcome to the forum, txtk ^__^
I'd recommend ink since they're being scanned. Can't help as far as image reduction; photoshop would be your best bet.
I did like the picture though. It seems to have a life to it; realism as well as...something. Kudos ^^

Thanks Relent,
I was going for realism since that is my interest as far as artwork......I did photoshop the sketchbut when I up;oaded it on the site, it blew up the size and since I am a computer idiot for the most part I have no idea how to correct. I will say it looks better in the thumbnail than when you open up the file.......thanks again for the advice

No prob, I'm just stating the truth 😉
I've had the problem a lot as well, and a quick fix--since there is no explicitness to the pic, you can host it from photobucket instead of your desktop. Photobucket resizes it to a size more befitting of a computer screen. This is only my solution, I'm not as tech savvy as all that either XD
I noticed the thumbnail is better looking as well. You'd do well to make it an avatar ^__^

INFO For Photoshop 8.0 (a.k.a. CS)

First on the menu at the top of the screen go to [View]
Then go down to [Actual Pixels]

(Why this first? So you will have a visual when doing the next part.)

On the menu at the top of the screen go to [Image]
Then go to [Image Size]
A window will appear
Now using adjustments section under [Pixel Dimensions:]
If you change the width dimension the height dimension should automatically adjust. Make sure your dimensions are in Pixels.
Click [OK]
And your image size should change. By changing your view to Actual Pixels you will be able to view your image at the size it will appear on the web.

And remember if you made your image to small use UNDO do not re-enlarge the image because the image quality will be poor, but you can always go smaller.

Hope this helps.

btw, nice pic.
