No special software required for Yahoo chat
Hey Mitch,
This is MikeS from the TMF. My email is
[email protected] if you want to give me a holler. I don't understand your email address or I'd email you. It's
[email protected] but it sure isn't what you posted. No embedded spaces. But if you email me first, I can figure it out.
First of all, there is NO special software you need to participate in a chat room for a Yahoo group. Anyone telling you that is simply trying to muddy the water. Millions of people are on Yahoo every day and it's one of the most reliable portals on the net. It MAY be your AOL browser that is causing the problems, but as much as I hate AOL (and you know that!), I'm really not sure of that. Bring up Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) and go to...

then select Chat on the left. Yeah, it seems to take forever to bring up Yahoo chat, but it will eventually work. Certainly the TMF chat is faster, simpler and easier, but Yahoo chat WILL work. Actually Yahoo chat is considerably more powerful with voice chat, more icons, and fancier fonts, and all that stuff makes it slower.
All that being said, I know that Yahoo has neglected the Mac users, especially on voice chat. You can't do voice chat with a Mac. Sorry 'bout that. But text chat works, even with a Mac.
Oh yeah, you DO need a Yahoo ID to do chat. No problem. Just get one. It's free. Pretend you're a teenager and simply do what it says. It's really easy. Don't make it hard. It isn't.
Be sure you have decently current software such as Windows 98 or higher (Windows98SE, ME, 2000 or XP) and MSIE at least 5.5. (I think you do.) Surely you don't have Windows 95! After all we've talked... Nah...
You might try downloading MSIE again to make sure you get all the software you need. It's all in the browser. My MSIE is version 6.0. Go to...

to get the latest MSIE. Yeah, it takes forever (over an hour) over a dialup line, but that's even more reason to go to broadband. You can probably pick up a CD with MSIE on it from any computer store in your area. CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Ask a techie in the store. That may be faster than downloading it.
I'm gonna be out of pocket starting Tuesday for about two weeks, but keep the faith. You don't need any "special" software to use Yahoo.
"I feel your pain" buddy! Keep on tryin'! You'll get there! We miss you!
