Sometimes Ticklish, Sometimes Not

😕 Here's a question for the community:
Has everyone else ever experienced a person who is sometimes ticklish, and sometimes not ticklish?

DAMN, I find it frustrating as hell. I really like to tickle feet, although I am an equal opportunity body part tickler. My girlfriend, who is totally hot, and has beautiful feet, is sometimes ticklish and sometimes not. I also had a girlfriend in college who was the same way. Sometimes if I looked at her toes she would scream. Other times, I could have a round hairbrush chucked up in a cordless drill on her arches and I'd get no reaction. Same thing with a friend of mine. She dies if you touch her feet one time, no nerves the next time.
I know that there are so many variables that can make someone more or less ticklish. And I know it's not my technique because I have been honing my skills for over 20 years (started tickling as early as 4!) Anybody else ever go through this, or do I just seem to attract females with bi-polar tickling disorder?

By the way, if you ask a girl if their feet are ticklish, and they say "sometimes", STEER CLEAR FOOT TICKLERS!

i TOTALLY know what your talking about. my girlfriend is the same way. her feet are pretty much ticklish all the time unless she is REALLY relaxed then it will take effort but her upper body is hardly ever ticklish but sometimes it is and it is SO FRUSTRATING. upper body would be so easy but a lot of the time i get NO reaction accept. ouch too hard. grrrrrr. so i'm with ya dude.

Hehe, I like this phrase {bi-polar tickling disorder} My fiancee is a redhead, and goes through the same things. There's a myth out there that all redheads die laughing if you even look at their feet.

Well, we were friends even back since high school, and I can tell you for a fact that's how she used to be from 14-18 or so. But since we've been to college and now out, she goes through different phases now. Sometimes she can grin and bear it, other times I can't get close without getting a black eye. It doesn't bug me much, since I'm not much of a confessed "foot guy." Just an anomoly.

But you're not the only one, man.

How can you figure

I gave up on this a long time ago. In high school I dated a cute girl whose feet were not at all ticklish. One morning after her shower I threw her on her bed, removed her slipper, and tickled her left foot. She went crazy, laughing like I never expected. We discussed it later and she was puzzled too. The only time I got a ticklish reaction from then on, was early AM, shortly after her shower. A few times she knew it was coming. Was that mental programming? Or oversensitized nerves? I'll never know.

Attitude can make a very big difference. Look at it this way:

On the physical level each person has a base level of ticklishness decided by real physical constraints; genetics, etc. The women being described above seem to have a base physical ticklish level, that hovers at the can control/ignore level. Call it a 4 on the 1 to 10 scale.

As they grew up they experienced tickling in various ways, and this sculpted a psychological response to being tickled. This modified how they respond. Think of it much as you think of wind chill modifying the real temperature in wintertime. For the women you describe above, most seem to have developed a mindset that automatically blocks strong response. This drops them to a modified 2 or 3 on the 1 to 10 scale.

But that aspect of mindset can work in the other direction. If they are very comfortable in a situation, aroused, or just in general more mentally relaxed, the psychological aspect can push things the other way, giving you a 6 or so... and a response.

Another fun aspect of the complicated machine that is the human mind/body interface.

There may be something to that...
1. Heat. warm feet are always more sensitive.
2. Moisture. wet feet, within limits, are more sensitive, in my experience. (by LIMITS, I mean, ok after a shower, but too much if after swimming)

I have found the element of surprise to be of little value in increasing the reaction. One thing I did have sucess with, and that's finding where they ARE sensitive that day. If I just went after her feet, my wife could sort of "block it out", I would counter this with a quick trip to her sensitive ribs or SUPER sensitive back and POOF, no more "blocking" when I return to her feet.😀

Theory one Why Ticklishness Can Vary

I have to say, I think I have read a couple places (and observed it first-hand) that the ticklishness of a lady (or guy..this isn't necessarily a gender-sensitive theory) is sometimes determined involunarily by how attracted he/she/it is to she/he/it. It's not really something that happens on purpose, rather one of those genetic oddities that has to do with attraction and mating and submission and the complicated likes of those. If someone is tickled by a person by someone who they are attracted to, they will often laugh, even though they might not really be all that TICKLISH (which is often a fact learned months later, much to the partner's dismay). Yet another reason in my book to take any potential relationship veeerrry sllooowllyy.

Yep. I know exactly what you mean. The first time I experienced this was about 1st grade on the playground. It's like crossing a Dumbo and a rhino.... elephino!

I understand what you are all saying and I think it gets really frustrating sometimes, because your just waiting for the reaction and it never comes. I've come to the conclusion that this is more the rule than the exception.

I had this friend who was ticklish and then she decided that she wasn't ticklish and she wouldn't let anyone tickle her again. (Who in their right mind would decide that!??!) She was really proud of this and I could tickle places that used to be ticklish for hours and not get a peep. The funny thing here was that she had a spot on her belly that was like a button. I could tickle her entire body all at once and not get a smirk, but all I had to do was touch that spot on her belly and she just fell apart into hysterical laughter.

Tickling is a mystery...
