SatAM and the Archie Adventure Series, the company that produced and still producing the ever-continuing Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series, are really where the series started.
Loyal fans and purists maintain that all these new changes never should have happened and that SEGA had/has TOO much of an influence over the comic book in recent years. Since the comic book series is in continuity with the satAM, fans were expecting certain things to stay the same, but when the newer Sonic games came out, things changed, and they screwed around with continuity to a degree.
They changed alot of things, even Sonic's appearance, to suit the new video game market, and alot of fans feel betrayed by this.
Archie comics has always been given it's freedom to pursue the Sonic universe in any manner they wanted to, and SEGA was ok with this up until now.
Now SEGA wants complete control over every major decision. They would argue it's their right, and it is, but they only seem to be changing things to promote their merchandize and gaming line. And thats sad, because Sonic used to be more than just about the games.
I stopped collecting the comics when the original story arc had it's climax. That was in issue 50. I've been out of the loop since then. I believe they're almost at 200 issues by now and I've seen how the art has changed to reflect the games and new cartoons over the years.
There are some good things about it, but its just not the same enjoyment anymore.
