So what do you consider to be the songs of the decades? Perhaps your favorite tunes from that era, or maybe the ones who best summarize your memories and experiences for those years? Picking one song alone to represent each decade would be impossible for anyone, so I'm selecting my top 3 for each era.

I'm starting with the 70's since that is the decade I was born....

1970's:

3. Too Late - Carol King/Superstar - Carpenters (tie)
2. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
1. Things We Do For Love - 10cc

1980's:

3. Say Say Say - Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson
2. Stray Cat Strut - Stray Cats
1. One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head

1990's:

3. Buddy Holly - Weezer
2. Bawitdaba - Kid Rock
1. Inside Out - Eve 6

2000's:

3. Crawling in the Dark - Hoobastank
2. Without Me - Eminem
1. How You Remind Me - Nickelback

So how about you guys? Just what comes to mind, spur of the moment. If I were to put too much thought into this myself, I would likely change my answers 100 times within 3 days...lol.

So Far As

Carole King, I prefer Tapestry to Too Late. Too Late is specfic whereas Tapestry is timeless.

My life has been a tapestry
Of rich and royal hue;
An everlasting vision
Of the ever-changing view;
A wond'rous woven magic
In bits of blue and gold;
A tapestry to feel and see;
Impossible to hold.

Once amid the soft silver
Sadness in the sky,
There came a man of fortune;
A drifter passing by.
He wore a torn and tattered cloth
Around his leathered hide
And a coat of many colors;
Yellow, green, on either side.

He moved with some uncertainty
As if he didn't know
Just what he was there for
Or where he ought to go.
Once he reached for something
Golden hanging from a tree
And his hand came down emp-ty.

Soon within my tapestry,
Along the rutted road,
He sat down on a river rock
And turned into a toad.
It seemed that he had fallen
Into someone's wicked spell
And I wept to see him suffer,
Though I didn't know him well.

As I watched in sorrow,
There suddenly appeared
A figure gray and ghostly
Beneath a flowing beard.
In times of deepest darkness
I've seen him dressed in black.
Now my tapestry's unraveling;
He's come to take me back.
He's come to take me back.

Tough choices...

I'll throw a few out there:

20's ------
Louis Armstrong
"When the Saints Go Marching In"

30's------

Judy Garland *best song ever, imo* Q
"Over the Rainbow"

40's-----

Bing Crosby
"White Christmas"

50's----

Bill Haley & the Comets
"Rock Around the Clock"

60's----

Aretha Franklin
"Respect"

70's---
Don McLean
"American Pie"

80's---
Billy Squier
"Rock Me Tonite"

90's---

Red HotCP
"Under The Bridge"

Damn near impossible to name ONE song from each decade though!! You could post about a dozen times and still be going, although I don't think you can change American Pie or Over The Rainbow.... Q
