Everyone has them, the song that you heard in a movie or on an ad or at a friend's house, and you rushed home and downloaded it onto your computer (which is punishable by death, music industry profits dropped to 6 Billion dollars last year. That's right, 6 BILLION dollars, bunch of whining bastards...).

The songs that you listen to over and over for about a week and then forget about. The ones on high rotation on my computer are:

Crystal Method - Trip like I do

Dropkick Murphys - Amazing Grace

John Lennon - Let it Be

MxPx - GSF (Girls Schmirls Foundation)

Rancid - If the Kids are United

The Clash - I fought the Law (live on Broadway)

Weezer - Buddy Holly

Wizo - Anneliese Schmidt

anyone else as fickle about their music as I am? I'd love to hear from you.

Biggles

I picked up a CD called "Cinema Choral Classics 3: Apocalypse" last month, mainly to get a digital version of the ominous Egyptian chanting from Young Sherlock Holmes. Much to my surprise, I found myself getting the theme from The Longest Day stuck in my head. By Paul Firkin' Anka no less! It just reminded me of the marching songs from the Rankin-Bass animated version of The Return of the King, so my brain's Lord of the Rings lobe siezed upon it like a dog with a new bone.

I also find my head filled with Hans Zimmer's fight music from Gladiator (currently heard in trailers for K-19 the Widowmaker) lately, and I always tend to hum sinister marches like Darth Vader's Theme and the Trade Federation March by John Williams when I'm in a good mood.

Cycles....

I have this problem quite a bit...I get stuck in a cycle with a few pieces for weeks...right now, its U2's "One", "Hero" from the SpiderMan movie and "Wild Nights" from Mellencamp.....sigh. Q

Mad...you're not the only one with John Williams music in your head. I've usually got Duel of the Fates running around up there. Must be something about the choral arrangements.

As an old-school musician, I'm finding it a bit refreshing to be finding some new stuff I like. I'm on this Vanessa Carlton kick right now. I like being able to download individual songs I like, rather than have to buy the whole album full of filler like in the old days.

However, there were a few songs that hit me in just the right way at just the right time to make me go out and buy the whole album. Here's a few...

"Got You Where I Want You" - The Flys (a very underrated band)

"Silent All These Years" - Tori Amos (pretty much how I got into her music)

"All We Are" - Warlock (And I'm still a fan)

"Blurry" - Puddle of Mudd (I know they're too popular to be cool, but I like them)

"Higher" - Creed (I liked the whole album, but now I'm growing weary of them)

"Harry's Theme" - Clannad (the only band I got into because of a car commercial)

"Rock and Roll's Gonna Save the World" - Y&T (and still a fan of them, too)

😎

Music

I too am a cycler, though lately I've been recycling some stuff from last year...on my playlist right now is:

"Hero" - Spiderman soundtrack

"Tribute" - Tenacious D

"Shooting Star" - Anabolic Frolic, Happy 2b Hardcore (hard techno)

"The Tale of Bobby Knight" - Straight No Chaser (a male singing group from Indiana U)

"Unchained Melody Rave mix" - DJ Mystic (also has a good Bittersweet Symphony remix)

"Insatiable" - Darren Hayes, formerly of Savage Garden, the best band ever.

"What If God Was One Of Us..." - Joan Osbourne

"You're Not Alone" - The Final Fantasy IX soundtrack...and it's a darn good song too!

Lately I've been obsessed with the Beach Boys' great lost album, "Smile," which was never completed because Brian Wilson cracked up, but which by all accounts would have been their "Sgt. Pepper." I'm fascinated by "what if" kind of stuff in general.

Possible theoretical song listing for "Smile" by the Beach Boys, released (if it had been finished) December 1966:

SIDE ONE:
Our Prayer
Heroes and Villains (the "Heroes and Villains" theme recurs in one- or two-second snippets between songs throughout the album)
George Fell Into His French Horn
Barnyard
Do Ya Dig Worms
The Old Master Painter
Wonderful
Cabinessence

SIDE TWO:
Good Vibrations
Vegetables
I'm in Great Shape
Wind Chimes
Mrs. O'Leary's Cow
Surf's Up

As for me

My big 10 as of right now

1. Fear Factory - "Descent"

2. Fear Factory - "Edgecrusher"

3. Hatebreed - "Unloved"

4. Hatebreed - "A Call For Blood"

5. KoRn - "Hollow Life"

6. KoRn - "Clown" (The Older Stuff Is Godly!!)

7. Nothingface - "So Few"

8. Nothingface - "Sleeper"

9. Soulfly - "No Hope No Fear"

10. Candiria - "Without Water"

Thats about all!! 😎
