Since MadKalnod blew so easily through my last little ditty, I thought I'd get serious and come up with a few hard ones. Non-geeks need not play. 😎


1) What is the official name of the language commonly referred to as "Basic"?

2) What fabled planet is so purely natural and perfect, so strong with Life and the Force that it has become a sentient being?

3)What close (genetically speaking) relatives of the Hutts controlled Ylesia during Han Solo's early career?

4) What standard part of a YT-1300 did Solo remove to install a second quad turret?

5) Who is the Yuuzhan Vong "Trickster Goddess"?

6) What is the title given to Black Sun "lieutenants"?

7) Why are only Sith lightsabers traditionally red? (Bonus points on a related topic...why did Ben Kenobi's lightsaber ignite so slowly before his duel with Vader on the Death Star?)

But if the answers are in the new LOTR then I'll get 'em soon! Was #7 because he hadn't taken his Viagra that morning? I'm pretty sure #4 was a fuel injector or the timing chain...lol. #5 HAS to be Kelly Ripa, she's everywhere these days....right? #6...they were called "TMF'ers" I think.

Jeez, those are tough ones. I believe that only Sith lightsabers are red because the Sith use manufactured crystals which are energized the powers of the wielder, no?

I've also heard that Emperor Palpatine had a lump of a rare black rock for a lightsaber hilt which channeled his force powers into a blade. Any truth to this Dave? If anyone would know, it would have to be you.

Just what I know off the top of my head:

1) What is the official name of the language commonly referred to as "Basic"?
The written version is called "Aurubesh" or "Aurebesh" (I've seen both spellings). If the spoken version has another name, I've yet to hear it.

2) What fabled planet is so purely natural and perfect, so strong with Life and the Force that it has become a sentient being?
Uuhh... You got me. As a purely wild guess, I might say Zonoma Sekot, but I haven't read Rogue Planet yet.

3)What close (genetically speaking) relatives of the Hutts controlled Ylesia during Han Solo's early career?
I believe that would be the T'llanda-Til (I'd have to check spelling, though.)

4) What standard part of a YT-1300 did Solo remove to install a second quad turret?
Pass. A better question, though, might be what standard parts of the YT-1300 did Solo leave intact?

5) Who is the Yuuzhan Vong "Trickster Goddess"?
I yield. I've not yet read the New Jedi Order series.

6) What is the title given to Black Sun "lieutenants"?
Vigo. IIRC, it means "Uncle" in Bocce. (I think it was Bocce. I know it wasn't Huttese or Old Corellian)

Red Adegan Crystals produce a generally weaker blade than the Blue and Green varieties, so the Jedi stick to thsoe two colors almost exclusively. Red Crystals, however, were found by the Sith to resonate better with the Dark Side; so a Sith with his Evil Mojo at full-tilt can boost a red lightsaber's performance better than a Lightsider could.

1) is Aurebesh.

2) is Zonama Sekot (which figures prominently in the NJO. As a fan, you really need to read this series, as everything you think you know about the Force is re-defined for the new generation.)

3) is the T'llandra T'il.

4) is the ventral escape pod. And yes, a better question might have been...what didn't he fuck with?

5) Yun-Harla...the Goddess Jaina Solo is emulating in an attempt to confound and mortify the invading aliens.

6) is, in fact, Vigo. And, yes...it was Bocce.

7) You're partially right. The crystals used for red blades are stronger with the Dark Side of the Force. (Although in the New Jedi Order, this is redefined as an internal decision, not a Force-related one.) They aren't all that weak to begin with, but are stronger when infused with Dark Side energies. The reason given for Kenobi's slow-igniting blade is devious. Although it is not common, strong red Sith blades have been known to "break", or shut down, other colored blades. Kenobi adjusted his saber to oscillate at a different frequency to account for the possibility. The "in-film" reason was because Lucas played with a few different rendering options when Star Wars was originally filmed.

I'll get into your questions when I have a little more time. I'm just posting before I go to bed. I hate working nights!

But I do know that the waitress's tag reads "FLO", in Aurebesh...an homage by Lucas to the ditzy waitress of "Alice" fame.

On a related topic, perhaps, when I have time, I'll post the seven recognized fighting styles of lightsaber combat and how they relate to the films, red blades, and actual sword-fighting. It's pretty interesting, if you're a Star Wars geek. 😀
