The eight-year-old daughter of late crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, has expressed a strong desire to swim with the same stingray that killed her daredevil father.

Bindi, who was named after one of Steve's favorite crocodiles, is working on her own wildlife series called ‘Jungle girl’, and has vowed to finish the film about the giant fish about stingrays.

Bindi To Swim With Stingrays

I think that it's wonderful that she has the same drive and love for animals that her dad had, but I wouldn't allow my 8-year-old daughter to partake in something that dangerous. If she were 18, fine. But she's only 8.

She has been quite amazing during this whole time. The media attention surrounding her has been near ridiculous but saying that she handled it quite well.

I am sure the support team sorrounding the family wont allow her to do anything dangerous but as you said and I agree she is only 8 not 18. I think maybe she doesnt fully understand her fathers death......thats just thought.

I think she's just like her father and will eventually continue his work. It's going to be hard to hold her back until she gets older, but I'm sure everyone around her knows the dangers and will make sure she's safe. At least I hope so.

Stingrays aren't that dangerous. Steve Irwin is only the 3rd recorded stingray related death since the 1930s. It was a freak thing. Total fluke.

Anyway, Bindi probably wants to do it because so many people have been killing stingrays in "revenge". Which we know would upset Steve. Probably got him all sorts of ticked off in the afterlife.

And Steve was wrestling crocs when he was nine, so Bindi swimming with rays at 8 is kind of going with family tradition.

Children need to be protected because they fully don't understand . Life seems a 50/50 chance of something happening ................

You folks make it sound like she's going to go out there completely alone, just her and a video camera. She'll have more adults around her then a child star has bodyguards.

I can think of an example of 50/50 ...the set of Twilight Zone the movie ..........an unexpected accident . In some cases no need to take a chance , especially if their young .

That's one strong girl - good for her. As stated, I'm sure she will be more than protected. It was an extremely rare incident and I hope she grows up to be a caring person like her father.

Are stingray tours safe?

According to statistics, there have been only 17 stingray deaths recorded worldwide. While what happened to Steve Irwin is a tragedy, Henningsen notes it’s extremely rare to have a vital organ punctured by a stingray barb. According to the fishes expert, “You have a better chance of winning the Powerball lottery than dying from a stingray barb.”

Aw Come on... what are the odds??? I agree with Ticklish Lurker and say let her go for it!

I just hope this dosen't end up being one of those Bruce/Brandon Lee type of situations.

I didn't know that stingrays are part of the mafia.

God, with what happened, Bindi will probably be sent out there with a kevlar vest.
