I have been feeling extremely depressed to the point where I have no positive thoughts but afraid to ask for help, any suggestions?

Honestly, see your doctor. Depression is nothing to fool around with. There is no shame talking to someone. I've been there and seeing someone helped me along with medication. Hope this helps

Being Afraid of looking at treatment is normal. Our society has put a big stigma on such forms of illness.

If you realize that you are not well, that's a significant first step. Asking for and getting help is the next one. Only a mental health professional can really evaluate your condition, and make suggestions on what should be done.

See someone. It can and will make a world of difference.

@NYC_finest, certainly understandable that you're reluctant to seek help, but I can tell you you're definitely not alone. As Lifeseeker said, he's been there and so have I and many, many others.

Each case of depression is different, but mine was--and is--apparently of the classic kind that's rooted in some kind of chemical imbalance in the brain. Remarkable how much that can cloud and distort one's mood-based perception of reality, and it's important to realize that it's not your fault and it's a state that can indeed be remedied, regardless of the specifics of your life situation.

My physician did start me on my first anti-depressants, along with routing me to counseling which as Myriads said is probably the best way to go. The combination of medication and psychological help, even if a lot of it was simple talk therapy, did wonders, and it's what I highly recommend for you once you can get past that first painful step. Encouraging you to make the leap, and please let us know how you fare.

A lot of people get depressed, many through health reasons you may not be able to control, many through
life's trials and challenges, which boy do we have a lot of today.

Fuck it, I'M depressed right now, so much crap going on in my life, none of it good.

I never ask for help, so I'm just trying to get through it one problem at a time - pay off my debt, get in shape, etc.
I've been paying off debt for years, have been walking, started lifting a few weights when I have time.

Reach out to friends, just to have people to hang around. I've been at low points in my life, where I had friends cheer me up just by being themselves.

See a doctor about it if you think it's bad, so many people do these days they'll know about your situation.

Oh sweetheart, I'm sorry. Depression is devastating this time of year. You're in the majority. Dont know how your funds are but invest in a light box. They're designed to treat SAD Seasonal Affective Disorder. The source of light will stimulate the nec parts of the brain.

Make damn sure youre getting enough sleep. Min. 6 hours. The brain discharges all the days data at night while you sleep. The body heals while you sleep. So yeah... SLEEP!

Take a multi vitamin if youre not...

Vitamin B12 pill, if no negative effects for you, gives me a boost of energy with in an hour of taking it. Its amazing!

Reach out for help and try those suggestions in the interim until you can get the help you need.

Don't argue with me! I'm a mother!!! ^_^

Yeah I hardly get any sleep. I always think about a lot before it's time to sleep so I end up staying up extremely late sometimes all night. But thanks for the info. I don't know if I could afford a light box but everything else I have tried but I guess I should put more effort into it. And thanks again!

Writing down all your thoughts before you go to bed and staying away from electronics - tv, cell phone, computer - for an hour before bed should help.

Also, exercise helps to release tension and stress.

Go see a doctor about this honestly, there is nothing wrong with seeking out help from family, and or loved ones or a pastor also. We all need that help in some aspects of our lives whether it's dealing with depression or not. No matter how big or small something is. We're not perfect. Don't let your depression and depression thoughts fester up and boil up to a point where you don't talk at all about it. A closed off heart is never good. You'll be in my prayers.

Very sorry to hear about your situation. As someone who was in therapy for many years, I have two suggestions.

1. Find a neutral professional to talk to, like a psychologist or psychiatrist.

2. About the sleeping. I would recommend trying a sleep aid, like Xanax. I wasn't sleeping after my mom's cancer diagnosis in 2010. My internist put me on Xanax, and I've been on it ever since. It really does help. Taken as directed, usually one pill at night right before bed, can help someone sleep, for.. as much as maybe 6 hours.

Good Luck. I hope you find the road to getting better.

Xanax is pretty addictive. Personally, id only take it during a serious depressive state or panic attack. Either way. We are not the people to be prescribing medicine so talk to your doc like everyone has said.

That is true , I haven't seen a doctor. I want to give it some time and see how I progress before I do that.! Thanks again for your replies everyone!
