Well, it seems that there's no Cinderella story to fill the sports pages this year. This is a game for the Big Boys, as both #1 and #2 teams are the only ones left alive.
This question is simple: Who's going to the Big Game?
Here's how I see it.
Philidelphia Vs. Tampa Bay
The NFL's top two defenses share the field. Tampa cannot expect the same kind of offensive success they had against the 49ers, where there were safeties playing cornerback. Philly can have some success running straight at the D-line, as proven by Garrison Hearst. Maybe not a hell of a lot, but more than Mike Alstott will have against Douglas and Co. One area that Philly exceeds Tampa in is the WR corps. Tampa has sure-handed, but relatively slow recievers. Not good against Bobby Taylor and Crew. Tampa will be putting the pass rush on Donovan McNabb all day, but his mobility doesn't seem as bad as some thought. And then there's the motivation side: this will be the last game played at storied Veteran's Staduim before being torn down. It's the NFC Championship game. No way the Eagles end this on a loss.
Just no way.
Eagles over Bucs: 31-20
Oakland Vs. Tennessee
With all the talk about the Jets' rise from a 1-4 start to finish 9-7, few remember that the Titans also started 1-4...but won ten of thier last 11 to finish 11-5 and grab the AFC's second seed. There's a lot to prove in Tennessee as they were the only team with a winning record to have no players selected to the Pro Bowl. With the likes of McNair, George, Kearse, Rolle, Wycheck and others, this is a grave oversight. The Titans are one of those teams that comes up quietly and you never know they're there...until you're facing them in the Super Bowl.
The Raiders are the aging vets of the NFL. The gunslingers, the Jedi Masters. How many recievers have caught 1,000 passes in thier careers? Well, two of them line up on either side of the league's 37-year-old MVP, Rich Gannon. It's defense that will hurt them. There was a lot expended in the Jets game by these already-banged-up players on Oakland's secondary. Perhaps the Raiders responded too heavily to the media-hyped Jets rematch. I think they make the mistake of looking past the Titans in this one. Tennessee is much more physical than New York and has a grossly-underrated defense, especially on the road this year. As quietly as they came into the season, they slip into San Diego in two weeks.
Titans over Raiders: 27-22
