So for anyone who isn't already aware, it was announced about two weeks ago at Comic Con in San Diego that a sequel to this summer's Superman movie, "Man Of Steel", will be released in 2015 and will feature Batman in it. By the sound of it, the two will be foe and battle one another. DC and Warner Bros. are adamant they want to ultimately want to make a Justice League film to rival Marvel's Avengers, and hope for a 2017 release for that, so this film is intended to serve as stepping stone to the JL film.

Batman has not been casted yet, and while it hasn't officially been confirmed Christian Bale will not reprise the role of Batman, the odds are high that Batman will be re-introduced with a new actor playing the role. However, a few years back Bale stated that post TDKR, the only way he'd play Batman again is if Christopher Nolan convinced him to do it. Nolan will have a production role with this film, as he did with MOS.

Thoughts?

My personal sentiments? I don't like the idea of having Batman in a MOS sequel to begin with, and I don't like the idea of re-introducing Batman with TDK trilogy still so fresh in mind. I don't think a JL film would work, as too many characters need to be introduced still, and too many actors are apparently having to be re-casted into roles (Ryan Reynolds has said he would not be Green Lantern in a JL film unless the script was dynamite). Avengers linked their solo films together perfectly, and managed to keep the same actors for their respective roles for the most part.

If they acknowledge that a JL film won't work, and make a few adjustments and a change of premise to this film, I think Warner Bros. can have a smash blockbuster on their hands. The key: Christian Bale.

Well I don't think that Chrisitian Bale would work because the point of the The Dark Knight Trilogy was the concept of "What would Batman be like if he REALLY existed in our present world." And I think for the most part they pulled that off beautifully. This Batman would need to share the screen with aliens, and amazons, and fish people, etc. and that just wouldn't work for the tone of those films.

As for my thoughts on it...I think its a terrible idea and I feel like its a very obvious draining of the cash cow. That's not to say that milking a success can't lead to good things necessarily but the way Warner Bros. and DC have handled their characters in their movies has mostly been disgraceful. The Dark Knight movies are too fresh in everybody's minds, I am one of those people that HATED Man of Steel with a boiling passion so I'm not excited about seeing a Man of Steel sequel to begin with, Green Lantern, and Jonah Hex were also terrible so DC doesn't really have my confidence when it comes to film. They are utterly failing at marketing this thing to me and introducing the new Batman in a sequel and not in a movie just wreaks of desperation to me.

They're trying to build off of the success of The Avengers without realizing what made The Avengers work. The Avengers worked because it gave time to let the characters breathe in their own movies and then when The Avengers came out it was a movie that let the characters settle in, mesh, and then give us one of the best ending action/battle scenes in blockbuster history! All DC has shown me is that they just want every movie to be bigger and badder without the world building aspect that the Marvel movies did. So I'm not excited for this sequel at all is what I'm getting at.

I actually really liked Man Of Steel. Wasn't flawless (what movie really ever is though?), but I actually liked it better than both The Avengers and TDKR. Like the TDK trilogy, I thought they did a good job at also depicting what it might really be like if Superman existed in today's world/society. How would he be viewed, perceived, and treated? I'm not fond of the JL in general though, as I think they're too "top heavy" so to speak with Batman and Superman.

I think DC's characters, namely Batman and Superman , do better in their own separate universes. If they feel the need to unite any of them, I think the only two should be Batman and Superman.

Based on Man of Steel I don't like it. Although I dislike Superman I think a Justice League movie could work.. after all, Superman really isn't much different than Thor. Both are overpowered and pretty much indestructible. It seems like they're rushing it.
