Suspects In Attack On Gay Men To Surrender..

This incident enraged me. I was relieved to see the culprits have been identified, and that they are supposed to give themselves up, to face justice.

The situation was first reported on Jim Gardner's 11pm news last night.

Last Friday night, two gay men were walking in a section of Philadelphia, when they were approached by a large group of people who hurled homophobic insults at them. The men were then assaulted and robbed by at least some of those who insulted them.

This situation is disgraceful. Two people who just happen to be gay.. are walking down the street, minding their own business, when they are beaten for no other reason than because their attackers are prejudice against gay people.

Hopefully the attackers will face long sentences in jail. They deserve it, and it should be a lesson to others..

Did anyone else hear about this incident? Thoughts?

Unfortunately, incidents like this aren't particularly uncommon.

I'm glad the attackers were identified and will probably face arrest. In the long run, we need to educate people to practice tolerance so that incidents like this don't ever happen in the first place.

Social Media played a Big Part.

Because people were so upset by this, people on Social Media were doing all they could to assist the Police in finding these individuals.

Social Media can be a Fucked Up place, but this was a great use of it.

Unfortunately, this incident can't be Prosecuted as a Hate Crime. Because Sexual Orientation isn't on the Hate-Crime list in Philadelphia.

It was also confirmed that some of the Culprits that were Identified by Social Media Users, posted Gay Slurs on their Facebook Pages.

Personally I've never been a fan of the idea of so-called "hate" crimes being handled differently than they would if they were done amicably. We already have laws against violence. These guys are going to be punished for breaking them. But I guess that's not enough for people who want to legislate attitudes and thought processes. To me, the whole idea suggests that committing violence against somebody of your own race/gender/eye-color is somehow better than doing it against somebody who looks or believes differently.

When a person commits grand larceny, or embezzles...do we care about the reason? I sure don't. Because the minute we start caring about WHY a crime was committed we open the doors to all manner of excuses and explanations that will have to be aired in court, clogging up the system. We've got too much of that already. The message needs to be sent. You get caught committing a crime, you suffer the consequences, no matter what reason you dream up for it.

Now that we have heard from the "white makes right" crowd, I would like to offer a different opinion:

Targeting people specifically because of their gender/race/sexual oreintation is going to be a SPECIFIC problem that exists in first world countries on a regular basis. This is a sense of entitlement. Not looking at the grander scheme of things. It will specifically ALWAYS be out a sense of entitlement...Or those who can't reach that pinnacle in their lives...So they attack others who specifically fall into that gender/race/sexual orientation based on some retarded belief that if they become sexist/racist/homophobes, this will SPECIFICALLY ingratiate them with the "cool kids."

ie: the "white makes right crowd." Yet, after all these years, you are still a hanger on.

This will never actually change for you. You will die as a second-class citizen...in their eyes.

You have just puked out your pathetic hatred for nothing...

You will die for nothing....
