Today is a remarkable day for the freedom of the internet. With legislation such as SOPA and PIPA, we are seeing a mass violation of our civil liberties in this country. We are a country of freedom not censorship.

Please show your support by signing the petition against SOPA and PIPA here

Guys, we love our community here and over at TMF. We love our privacy as well.

Time to fight the injustices of the government

End Piracy!

Not Liberty!

Amen brother!! Fuck d-town and their rules on how we communicate!! This isn't going to make me want to buy hollywood's disasters anymore than i do now! Fuck the government and the internet take over!!!

I totally agree, everyone try what you can so SOPA and PIPA doesn't get passed. It might say protection in the title, but it sure isn't protecting our right to for free speech or expression.

I signed the online petition too.

From the Mozilla Foundation newsletter:

This harmful legislation, called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate, will be voted on as early as January 24th in the Senate.

If you live in the US, there's still time to help stop these bills from becoming law. Please visit http://mozilla.org/sopa for information on the bill, and on ways you can reach out to your senators.

What makes this legislation so bad? Here's how it would change the Web:

* Communication platforms – from YouTube to Facebook to Amazon – could be shut down if a single rights holder alleges a violation.
* It would make the Web less stable and less secure.
* Social networking sites, like Twitter or Facebook, could be forced to track and control user behavior, stunting innovation and undermining free expression.
* Your Internet provider could be required to inspect all of your traffic and browsing.

The US government are now turning into bigger dickheads than the turian councillor and udina in mass effect combined

I would gladly vote to stop it, but I am not in USA...

People I know who'd normally never be "active" about anything were writing their representatives and signing the petitions- this protest/blackout has renewed my faith in the American people. I'm serious...

Now what just a minutes! I'm aware that Youtube and other video site will be taken down if they wont, but Amazon as well!? I'm a member of that site and that's been a big help ever since. I'd have harder time finding good stuff if that goes down. :scared

Not sure if it counts much, but our State's (Hawaii's) two senators and two representatives have all stated that they're most likely against the bills, due in great part to Wednesday's blackout and the attention it brought. So, the protests ARE having an effect. 🙂

The battle may be won, but the war is just beginning. Keep an eye on ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) and PCOP (Protect Children from Online Pornographers Act). Should they slap SOPA on PCOP, it may be more difficult to get people to vote against a bill supposedly about "protecting the children". I expect them to have some sort of "Fighting Terrorism and Supporting America by Fighting Piracy" bill next.

Although I'm not American, I am also concerned about what I see going on down there, and I don't want new innovation on the web to be stifled by fear of frivolous litigation. Youtube wouldn't have started under SOPA. Be ready to fight for a long time. The price of a free internet is eternal vigilance.
