The Cars Ric Ocasek dies at 75.

Sad - heart disease I guess. I always liked "Just What I Needed" which Ric wrote, even if Ben sang it. Ric did sing it in recent years, after Ben died of cancer.

I remember the video for "You Might Think" had some pretty good special effects for it's time. My Mom used to watch music videos with me if she had nothing else going on. But the only 2 times she stopped what she was doing to watch them with me was the debut of "Thriller" and that video.

I read an interesting article that said even though Ben sang a lot of the hit songs, Ric was still the voice behind the lyrics and the driving force that kept the band going musically. They were pretty big in the spread of the New Wave sound in the States. Looks like everyone from the Killers to Weezer was influenced by them, even if their videos weren't always as eye catching as say, Michael Jackson. (Not sure how you could really compete with Thriller at the time though!)

I came of age n the 80's and really got into new wave. So The Cars were one of m favorite bands. The thing about Ric as a frontman was he had a stage presence without really tying to bring attention to himself. RIP

There are great bands out there that I’d list among favorites, but I don’t like everything they put out.

Then there are bands while they might not make my favorites list, I can honestly say they didn’t put out anything I didn’t like. The Cars was one of those bands. From the moment I put in my Candy O cassette and Nightspots hit my ears, there was never anything I heard from them I didn’t like.

It’s sad seeing somebody from a band you grew up listening to leave this world.

Agreed!
