On February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, along with their pilot Roger Peterson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. Don McLean would later write a song called "American Pie" about this tragic event.

Dang, I thought you were gonna announce another one had left us... But, yes, that day 57 years ago was a bad one (I was about 3 yrs old at the time). 3 biggies for the time.

At the age of eight, I did not realize at that time the enormity of the tragedy that had occurred that day. 🙁

I was at the age that Rock & Roll Music was becoming popular.

I wish I'd lived in that era - the pleasure I get from dancing away to a Buddy Holly track, usually 'Rave On', is such a delight - the age at which they died makes it all the more tragic - I wonder what the stories of their lives would have been had they lived.

Unfortunately another one has left us. Maurice White the founder of Earth, Wind and Fire passed away last night.
