Ok this is rather a random question but what do you think things will be like in the future-say year 3000 when we wont be here.e.g. cars, houses etc etc?Or what would you like the future to be like?

E.g. like it is in the Jetsons or something?

I think it'd be quite cool to travel around in spaceship/shuttle type vehicles.Self cleaning rooms.Dishwashers that load themselves.Self ironing clothes. An oven that cooks food to your liking by itself. 😎

it might be like the Jetsons. I think that it would be cool to have my own spaceship, have a self-maintaining house, automatic electronics, etc.

Full body fetish nano-suits. Put it on, input what you would like to happen to you; and a billion lil nanobots turn the suit into your craziest fantasy...

Also those memory thingies (forgot the title of the movie) where you can record your own memories (or other people's memories), and re-live them. Id record my ticklees memories of our tickling sessions, and be able to experience them first hand...

*dreamy eyes*

oh, and lets not forget worldpeaceandallthatjazz

i honestly think it's gonna be like the Mechwarrior and Battletech series of books. it's a very good prediction of the year 3052 A.D.

Existence will be in the form of energy only. People will decide to dump their bodies and live in a big machine, never getting old, frail, or sick. Plus there will be robots. Big robots....with lazers.

No way, not like the Jetsons...but like Futurama!!! Come on, tubes that take you all over the place, the ability to go to an amusement park on the moon, the potential to fly to the edge of the universe, and a plethora of different, intelligent species to interact with.

It will be awesome! 😛

I dont think we'll still be here in 1000 years.

Gee, I'm optomistic aint I...

i don't blame ya. i feel the same way at times. i tell ya, we won't be on earth though. that's a FACT. even now Earth can't sustain us well.

I think there'll be mass destruction, but not total. Some will survive, escape, start civilisation anew. Whether it will at all resemble what we know today as humanity is a good question, but I believe some of our descendants WILL survive, in some form or other (maybe even going digital, and transferring their sentience into machines).

I don't think we are getting anywhere closer to the future than I thought. We don't even have experimental hove cars yet. Lame

1000 years is a long time! I mean just think what life was like in 1006! Languages as we know them today probably didn't exist. Masters such as DaVinci, Gallileo, Bach and so on weren't even around...

I couldn't even imagine what life will be like. But I do like rtl's nano-suit. Sign me up for 2!

No, ur almost right Snail... a monument to Kimi is what we need.

What it must depict is Kimiko getting her feet tickled by someone (perhaps me 😀, 😛), her feet are restrained in stocks and over to the side is you, the artiste, creating a picture of it on a canvas. All of that in a monument...

I don't bothering thinking about the distant future often, because I'm not going to be around to see it, which sucks. None of us are. And anyone who says "yeah, but what about cryogenic stasis", I'll say it will most likely be too expensive for the common man to afford or it will only be an option for world leaders and such and regular citizens won't have access to it. People can barely tolerate gas price increases and a dwindling oil supply as it is.

The only time I really bother thinking about this type of thing is for my sci-fi manga. And considering the vast thoughts I have to put into that to make it seem realistic, I don't have very much energy left for reality's concerns for the future.

Some of the things we thought we'd have by now we don't, like hover cars, true artificial intelligence in robots, family cruises to the moon and back, and close encounters of the 5th kind on a mass scale.

It's actually pretty disappointing. We used to dream of all sorts of contraptions but science has let us down with it's eager presumptiousness. NASA is no prize pig itself anymore either, and has been dragging it's ass as far as space exploration is concerned; it's just a bloated bureaucracy now that has largely lost it's pioneering spirit.

They're like muppets with hands up their asses, pissing away our money on their inflated budgets and internal struggles!

SOLVE THE F*CKING PROBLEM AND GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR OR GIVE US BACK OUR DAMN MONEY! WE'RE NOT GIVING YOU THAT MONEY SO YOU CAN SIT AROUND, MONITORING SATELLITES, YAWNING AND SMELLING YOU OWN DAMN FARTS, YOU PROCRASTINATING LAPDOGS! :sharp_tee LOL!

I can't pretend that anything I say concerning the future will be accurate, but I'll type anyway. I think there will still be humans around, but it's likely that we will have gone backwards, civillisation-wise. With all the man-made threats looming over us that weren't even imagined a thousand years ago (global warming and the o-zone, oil running out, nuclear war, etc), it'll be a miracle if we get that far unscathed.

And then there are the more far-fetched theories like "grey goo" that could wipe us out altogether. 😉

On a slightly related note, here's an interesting (and quite impressive) video from YouTube:

Well spoken Vlad, well spoken!!! Of course I don't have to worry about that since I'm a Canadian and the only "spacey" thing we have is the Canadarm... our government finds other ways to waste our tax dollars, like going to Amsterdam for "diplomatic relations" :sharp_tee

In all honesty, I agree with Vlad as I don't see any reason for the future to be any different then now...

Thank you.

Also, we used to get more done with less. Now we need more just to come up short anyway. It's ridiculous. We never used to fail this much or have this many complications. The ends do not justify the means anymore and the money is just being wasted. People seem to only give a damn about keeping their jobs and having health insurance. They could care less if we're exploring space. It's enough to just send astronauts up the to station to do maintenance work. MAINTENANCE WORK!

We're supposed to be creating spaceships and such! And I'm not talking about a freaking shuttle! That doesn't count! Has anyone forgotten that we're running out of natural resources and we need to get into space as fast as we can?! Sheesh! Or maybe world governments are just waiting until we all destroy eachother so then THEY and their families can get on the ships and have entire planets to themselves! 😛

How do you KNOW I won't still be alive in 3006? You just wait - in 3006, I'll still be around, laughing my ass of at you lot for dying centuries earlier - assuming I still have an ass in 1000 years time. 😀

Umm....I just said. Unless you're filthy rich or are the son or daughter of a top-ranking government official I highly doubt you'll be chosen, much less allowed to be frozen in the distant future. Now? Yes. Distant future? It may boil down to the worth of individual human beings. In that type of scenario it is not beneficial to the big corporations to allow just anyone to be frozen. Would they even have enough units available per citizen? We don't even have enough flu shots. I think they'll prefer their clients to be either very rich or someone who can do them favors.

Plus, what about the guess work? Someone who is frozen that long may not come out the same way they came in. They could suffer mental retardation or some other side effects. And lets not forget the possibility of dying in stasis. Let us not forget sabotage or medical malpractice as well. Oh, and lets not forget the possibility of not being able to adjust to a new world.

In the future they will put a cat's brain inside of a dog's body. The universe will explode shortly thereafter.

The more I read a about history, the more I realise that the emotional content of a general day in the life of the everyday human being has stayed very similar, and that the balance between suffering/comfort, wealth/poverty, while having been polarised by technology, has also been sustained across the ages. So my guess is that the future will probably be, from a day to day point of view, depressingly similar.

Arg.

Although one very interesting question that Sci Fi asks frequently is, in an age of ever advancing genetic engineering, whether or not humans will evolve into castes.

What will the future be like? ................Terminator. That is all.

But from a more realistic guess, kinda like now, but with technology seperating the rich and the poor (rich have all the advanced technology, poor live in slummy places with dumped down technology and such). The only reason I see something being majorly different is if the atmosphere becomes contaminated or something due to the effects of a major war. Which could be a very strong possibility.
