Very interesting. I kind of wish I had a better understanding of what exactly this new particle will actually define/explain in terms of the universe.

Yea its pretty cool. The God Particle term is an overstatement, of course, its used primarily so particle physicists can get some attention. LOL Though many scientists do dislike the name. 😀

My understanding is Higgs Boson will help explain why particles have the mass that they do. Like why for example a photon is massless. This is hoped will lead to a better of understanding of why things are the way they are.

I despise the name. It is the last particle yet to be discovered in the Standard Model of Particle Physics.

@Everyone else: It's the particle that gives objects mass. What that means is somewhat simple to explain. Most people hopefully remember in school talking about electrons having negative charge and protons having positive charge and them giving off electric fields. Well, at the microscopic level, when two objects are experiencing an attractive or repulsive force due to their electric charge, what's happening is these particles are sending off and receiving photons. It's said that photons "mediate" the electromagnetic force. Same idea with mass. It's believed that massive particles have mass because of the Higgs and particles that do not have mass (which coincidentally, are photons) do not interact with the Higgs and their interactions with the world do not involve the Higgs particle. Particles with higher masses are interacting with and sending out more of these particles and visa versa.

Some wanted to name it the GodDamn Particle cause its so hard to find. 😛

Thanks :ty: for the more detailed explanation. 😀

Based on some of the people I have seen ( myself included) I believe more in a Big Bong theory than a Big Bang one. The "atheist particle" is also bitchin' or so I have heard........

Thank you, sir. 🙂
