Since everyone in my other thread seemed so intrested in spider's here's a few interesting but useless facts.

Did you know that Little Miss Muffet was a real person? She was the daughter of a 16th century English doctor who believed spiders had healing powers and made his daughter eat them.

Some spiders can go as long as a year without eating.

Spiders are found on every continent except Antarctia.

The venom of a black widow spider is 15 times more powerful then that of a rattlesnake

Because of their strength, spider webs were used to pack wounds to stop bleeding and promote healing.

I never kill spiders in my home..i let them live..now if a tarantula should happen to enter..that might be a different story..however the mess...

Just love those spiders , such great architechs ............

I hate spiders. I hate anything poisonous. I kill them with great relish. I've been known to empty half a can of bug spray on them. Only spider I like is Spider-man.

I think tarantulas are harmless no? Ugly MFers for sure, but not deadly or anything.

They really are quite harmless and docile for the most part and many of them are really quite beautiful and colorful.

Thanx, bugman.I've been into spiders for years. On a weight for weight basis, that's true:Lactrodectus venom is 15 times more virulent than rattlesnake venom. Both are a similiar type of (neurotoxin) nerve-poison I believe.
There's numerous "types" of Widows too, Brown Widows,a Red Widow, and several varieties of Black Widows.

There is a spider in South America of the genus Phoneutria which is implicated in many bites.

I have a coworker in AZ who often posts pic of tarantulas from her backyard on our "virtual office" space (home workers). So far I've yet to see a beautiful one, but I'm one of those granola tree hugging types, so I'm quite sure they exist.

Though, I'm not exactly creeped out by spiders, I don't think I could sleep well at night knowing there are very large spiders in my backyard. :scared:

Spiders! yearg! hehe I have prolly seen more spiders at work today than i have seen in the past year! Who knew so many could live in harmony in such a tiny wooden chest like that!

EEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Yuck. Spiders are the devil, Bobby Boucher.

Finally! Someone who agrees with me!

Spiders - and other bugs - way out in the wilds I don't mind. But I don't want them in my house or workplace. And most I don't want in my garden either - just usuful ones like bees, butterflies, and worms.

Spiders are pretty gross.

It's even worse when they're furry.

*shudders*

Yes, anything with more than four legs is just plain *wrong*, and will die if I find it in my house. *shudder*

Agreed. But there are other furry things that more than make up for that.

While I have nothing against spiders in general, but the Australian mouse spider (see pic) is something I'd rather not be near.. they can bite through a leather boot   and are very poisonous (although not necessarily deadly), and when the males are wandering to find mates they're also quite aggressive.

Concerning the comparison with rattle-snake poison, that might be true but a spider injects a lot less poison than a snake, so it isn't nearly as dangerous, normally. Some spider bites can cause necrosis of the flesh (large, badly healing wounds of rotten flesh), however, that might be because some inject not only poison but sometimes also the digestive secretion that they use to dissolve prey and the tissue dies around the bite...

BTW., all spiders are poisonous, including house spiders, but they normally can't bite through the skin.

Jumping spiders are the worst! And I could've used a warning before seeing that pic of the spider, thank you very much!

But it's just an innocent animal.. not some freakish zombie or something 🙂

Oh Yeah??? Lookee what I can do!!!

Only difference is... I don't do this with my butt...

Little Miss Muffet
sat on her tuffet
eating her kurds and whey.
Along came a spider
who sat down beside her
and frightend Miss Muffit away.

She returned to the scene
with a hammer in hand
and said "This is for you my friend."
and the hammer came down
with a horrable sound
and thus it was the end.

The moral to this story is... Never frighten a woman who knows how to use a sledge.

I loved the second part!
Never heard it before... is it your contribution or is it something I have missed all these years?

Along came a spider
And now it's inside her
Because it fell into her whey.
