The majority of the music that the so-called "artists" and "stars"
spew out are complete and utter crap. The exceptions, in my opinion are U2 and Aerosmith (among a few others). The teeny-bopper bands of today have almost no musical skills and the only abilities they do have, are bouncing up and down and all around and trying to look
oh-so-cute-and-adorable for the camera and their teenage and pre-teen fans. Do you think people will remember Brittney Spears in another year or so?
That's highly doubtful. Who can forget the "mighty" Spice Girls? I
certiantly did. So did the majority of the public. And what about the
New Kids on the Block? They were the BackStreet Boys of the 80s and
90s. Where are they now? Do we even care? Nope. What about Vanilla
Ice? He melted away and Marky Mark funked-out What about Christine
Agguliara? I could not go 30 minutes without hearing her name. What
happened?
The same thing that will happen to the likes of the
Fag-Street Boys and N*Stynk. They are a passing fad, and will soon
disappear into nothingness, and speaking of fading into nothingness,
what happened to 98 Degrees? Was their career "cooled off", because I
have not heard about them in forever, as well (thank God).
Some of you might be saying "But millions of people cannot be wrong
and WHO THE HELL ARE YOU to disagree with popular opinion, anyway?
And to that I quote Mark Twain who said "A million people can say a
stupid thing....but that does not mean it's any less a stupid thing"
Now I know that there are millions and millions of teeny-bopper
worshippers who will love to have the chance to blast me for not
becoming simply another "mindless disciple" and a "mindless worshipper".
I don't really have a problem with these "flavor-of-the-minute" "artists". But I have a problem with people calling them "talented musicians". In my opinion, if you cannot play your own instruments, you are not a legitimate musician.
But I refuse to listen to a song or group I do not like, simply
because everybody else in the free world worship them. I refuse to
throw myself off a steep cliff, simply because everybody else before
me had already done so. I refuse to be just "another mindless sheep in a flock of many", simply because everybody else is. But maybe that's just me.
It may seem that I am blasting teeny-bopper bands, as a whole entity,
which is not true. I am a child of the 70's and was raised on Elvis
and the Beatles (both my parents at one time were card-carrying hippies). and they were the ultimate in teeny-bopper and set the stage for the teeny-bopper movement and in fact, the boy-bands of
today, in part, owe their existance to The Beatles. But what sets them apart from today, is they actually had musical talent. Other great artists who set the stage was Kiss, Jethro Tull, Metallica (before they sold out to Corporate America), Van Halen and the legendary Jimi Hendrix and Styx.
When I went to a concert, it was for the music, and not just to see
some skank in trampy clothes bouncing all around.
But I guess that's what sells today. Today you don't need musical skills to make it big in the music industry. You just need a pretty face, a hot body, and a catchy name and the masses will flock in and will never notice the differance
But then again, do the people actually go to a BackStreet Boys concert because of the music? God, I should hope not! I have listened to some of their songs and would rather go thru a root canal, sans the pain killers, than have to listen to them again!
