The new Battlestar Galactica

Anyone remeber that show? I remember watching it when I was younger and loving it! It was the only TV show of it's time to use Movie-level special effects and design.

I've read that the Sci-Fi Channel is bringing it back as "Battlestar Galactica 2.0". The biggest change, one that took me by surprise, is that the character of Starbuck (TV's closest thing to Han Solo) will now be played by a woman.

I hope they haven't screwed with the Viper too much. That was the coolest fighter outside of the B-Wing.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing Cylons again? 😎

Man, I hope this really DOES come to fruition! I loved the orignal show, despite the somewhat campy short-falling of the writing. And how about some damned CLOSURE, for the love of all that is good? And don't even TRY to call that farce, BG-1980 closure... that petered out before even a complete season, didn't it? Jeezum, can you imagine what they're gonna be able to DO with today's special effects wizardry? OMG! This is potentially HUGE! Loved that soundtrack, too, LoL. I have a few BG WAV files on my computer, too. 😱 Where'd you come up with this bit of news, Dave? This is fabulous!

I am SO looking forward to this!!! Of course, I saw very little of the original series itself, but what I did see rocked! Now begins the long wait until its December arrival.....

Biscuit and Dan, the show will come to fruition, the ad I read already had promo shots. As to the buckskin vest thing, the new flight uniforms are apparently taking a cue from the black leather X-Men-type uniforms. Looks pretty sharp from what I've seen.

Sci-Fi Channel has really been doing some great stuff lately, so this should be good. If it's half as good as the job they did on the remake of "Dune" and "Children of Dune", it should rock.

From what I've read, once the decision to make Starbuck a woman was made, they also decided NOT to have any sexual tension or relationship-tyope issues between her and Apollo (who appears to be portrayed by the second coming of Dean Cain), this way, the show could be all action.

Hopefully, Sci-Fi has plans to release this on DVD.

And rationally...

...it makes more sense for women to be fighter pilots anyhow. There've been studies that prove that their hand-eye coordination is better than males, and they can withstand higher G-forces due to their higher pain threshold.

(combine that with the innate mercilessness of some of the women in here, and it'll make ya wonder why ALL fighter pilots aren't women! 😛 )

i've seen the ads on sci-fi since june

it's torture to have to wait untill december for a return to b.g.
i wonder if they'll use any of the old cast as camios? that would be nice.

actually dan, that whole thing about women having faster/better hand to eye coordination, etc. is a myth. the army did studies on it, and found women no faster than men, but did hesitate when it came time to pull the trigger. also women tend to close their eyes, or look away when they do pull the trigger, so they have a higher miss rate.

Teaser trailers, news, board the usual stuff.

Was going through some old videos the other day and came across the opening monologue / credit sequence to the original series and it still manages to get me on edge. It's something I really miss from most fantasy / sci-fi shows, only the Babylon 5 intros have really managed to get me pumped for a show in the last few years (though all such pieces must bow to the majesty of the end monologue of Star Trek 6 in my book 😉 ).

Oh, almost forgot, Jpie1, the lead on the original show was either Apollo, played by Richard Hatch (who I presume is the one you mean) or Adama played by Lorne Greene.

Starbuck was my favorite character on the show. When they decided to make him a woman, I decided that I will not watch this show.

I've heard from Sci Fi nerd friends that the show was going to be very different. Edward James Olmos (Adama) even mentioned that it's not going to be the same and fans of the old show probabaly will be expecting too much of the old show and therefore won't like it. But I'll still be watching. I've been waiting so many yarons for this.....

Actually, from what I've seen and read, it's not going to be that much different from the original, at least in concept. Other than the origins of the Cylons and a few cast changes, it's supposed to do what the original was intended.

Nostalga and demographics. Easier to hook people in if there's a built in audience.
