Thanks hds for the link and the advice. 🙂

Stay away from refined foods (eg. sugar) and processed carbohydrates (eg. white bread), etc.

Basically, stick to foods that you can shite out of your system within an hour or so.

Happy hunting!! 🙂

Cheers.😀

Ugh Diets. As giggly mentioned, eat lots of veggies. Go ahead and add quite a few fruits to the list, they are natural sugars and have some nice antioxidants in there. stick with fish and chicken for meat.

Before starting any harsh dieting, I would check with a physician first. Unknown medical conditions can surface when dieting, such as anemia, hypoglycemia, diebetes, etc.

What also helps is to have a friend doing a diet as well, you two can support one another, and help you from cheating 🙂 Good luck!

Salads (but not from McDonalds, if you read their health chart, the big Macs are healither than some of their salads!!), fruits- bananas, oranges, apples, granola bars are good too.

Thanks moses-for that interesting but helpful info.

thanks 4pawz, hmm fruits and veggies, guess this mean no more dew...goodbye my green gooey sugary soda.

Thanks lime, i stopped eating mcdonalds but i have to stop eating pizza as well. All that orange goo...

unfortunately, yeah, giving up soda is a good idea. Just a bunch of empty chemical calories. Fruit juice or water, or milk I guess, is best 🙂

The other question to ask is:

Why are you dieting?

To loose weight? For a specific health benefit (Lower Blood Pressure, reduced Triglycerides)?

That can make a big difference.

The easiest and most straightforward eating plan that I have come across is the Body-for-Life program. You eat six meals a day with each meal being a combination of a portion of protein and a portion of carbohydrate, and drink at least 10 glasses of water each day. You do this for six days and then you take the seventh day as a Free day. Or, in other words, on the seventh day you eat anything you want and as much of it as you want.

By doing this, over time, you will find that your cravings for unhealthy foods start to fall off and you will start craving healthy foods.

Also, of equal importance, don't think about it as a diet. The word diet implies something temporary. If you are looking to change your eating habits to lose weight or be more healthy, you have to change your lifestyle. Otherwise, as soon as you go stop and go back to your old way of eating, you'll find yourself back where you started.

Myriads~well i would like to loose weight, and lower blood pressure. Im not extremely overweight but im trying to increase my metabolism. I always feel tired, i figured maybe if i started eating better, i would be healthier.

If you are tryign to lower your BP (a battle I'm fighting right now) then you need to do a few things.

1) No more alcohol. Period.
2) Salt... you need to get rid of as much of it in your diet as you can. And it's a real bitch to do. It's in everything that comes in a can, bottle, or take out place, and in amounts that are WAY high. An adult should have no more then 2000mg a day. Not simple. (for example the average slice of bread has 160 mgs) getting it under a 1000mgs a day is best.

Cutting portions is a big way to do this. You can make a great change by halving the amounts of what you eat.

The other thing is you need to learn to cook for yourself. It's the only real way to get salt, sugar and fat out of your diet. You'd be amazed how simple chicken breasts are to cook up. 🙂

AphxA, if you want, you can get more information about it from the Body-for-Life site. They have nutrition info and recipies as well as information about the Body-for-Life competition.

Thanks everyone for all the help!

mykal~thanks, i wish i could cook, but i suck at cooking. If it wasnt for the microwave or takeout, id starve to death.

Mykal, have you lost weight on that diet?

My best friend lost OVER a 100 pounds on The Body for Life system, and has kept it off to this day!

Eat a lot of whole foods, not processed. Lay off the fast food - do you know how much money you save if you don't eat fast food? A LOT!

Chicken is better than red meat, but if you cook any meat, cook it in a non-stick pan, so you can drain out all the fat and oil. Whole wheat is better than white bread. Low fat milk is better than whole milk.

But still make food that tastes good, so you don't get sick of tasteless crap and give up! You get some lean ground meat, or chicken breasts, grill it with onions and bell peppers, season it with some curry and mexican seasonings, or whatever you like, wrap it with some tomatoes in a whole wheat pita or whole wheat tortilla shell, and go to town! talk about good!

But don't forget exercise, AphxA. I was going to start a diet thread earlier, because there was one when a girl on the forum was considered surgery to lose weight. (No one consider surgery to lose weight, the side effects are REALLY bad....)

Exercise, like, tomorrow, (or today, whenever you read this.) and don't stop. Do it everyday. The hardest day will be the second day. The first day, you go work out, the second day, you're sore, so people usually stop at this point. You have to do it again. Like, take a walk, but don't quit, walk again the next day, and after the 4th or 5th day, you will be used to it and won't get sore. Then start jogging. Then jogg farther. Do this, and keep up the diet, and you'll lose the weight, have more energy, be able to tickle longer, and feel great!

And good luck!

Mabus, so far I have lost about 15 pounds of fat, though I have another 35 pounds to go.

AphxA, I'm probably just as bad a cook as you are if not worse. 🙂 I usually get a bag of frozen chicken breasts and bake them on a cookie sheet. Then I put them in the fridge so that when I need to prepare a meal, I can just take one out and throw it in the microwave. Add a small salad on the side and I'm set. A quick two minute meal.
