The Phrase 'Tickle Torture'

I'm wondering if anyone here thinks that we maybe use the term a little too loosely, especially when we hear horror stories of people around the world being tortured in very painful ways. Does anyone think the phrase is kind of an oxymoron? It is true that being tickled unmercifully on an unbearably ticklish part of your body can be highly uncomfortable - but can one really call it torture?

I can't say that I've reached a point where pleasure stopped and torture began, on either end of the feather, so to speak, but I've heard plenty about it.

I agree that the phrase is thrown around too lightly. I don't use it myself, as I think that tickling should be fun.

I don't see how the phrase tickle torture is all that different from tossing the word torture around in BDSM play when referring to the use of tickling to test someone's limits. Tickling doesn't have to be torture (even in the S&M sort of sense), but I don't see how it's inappropriate if you don't have a problem with the term used in other forms of sexual play.

It's used too much. Since I have a huge tickle fetish, tickling turns me on and is very arousing. Couldn't really be catagorized as being "torture." At least not for me, just a huge sexual rush. Both me and my girlfriends enjoy all of the teasing and feathering that we do to eachother when we are playing around while we are in bed together.

I can see where if a victim is horribly ticklish and quite fearful of it ... the approaching doom of being tickled by an interrogator as a way of torture or punishment might be hard to withstand. I know from experience that sometimes just the taunting of a 'lers fingers or feathers over a 'lees body or tickle spots can be enough to make the strapped down victim plead and scream for mercy, maybe even begin laughing, always immediately fearful of the intense tickling that is about to begin ... eventhough it hasn't yet. Maybe that's a better way to imagine tickle torture.

Much of what I've seen in tickle magazines (before websites came along) and in all of those old Calstar or Prestige fetish videos really is not tickle torture. It was mostly just "tickle play" between partners. The rope work and the bondage was never very good. Yeah, sometimes feathers were involved ... but not very effectively or convincing. With my girlfriends, I'm a much better tickler with my feathers on their naked bodies. In my opinion, much of what has been put out there as "tickle torture" videos (DVD, old VHS, online homemade clips, even the fetish company porn stuff) doesn't even come close to really showing true "tickle torture." I so totally love all of the lesbian F/F tickle play video material ... but most of it is always like wrestling on the living room floor with no bondage and if there is some bondage, ropes, it's never done very well.

Well, it is thrown around a little loosely at times, but it IS used as torture(not sure where though...). I wouldn't think it's very effective, but I guess when it's prolonged past the person's limits it turns into torture. I can't imagine someone seriously using that as a torture though, unless it's for kicks.

I agree with Sammi-chan. The word "Torture" sounds dangerous, edgy and can definitly work in a BDSM way. In the end it doesn't have to be torture (painful) or extreme; but it sorta sets the desired mood, especially when the lee is restrained or overpowered.

So, no... it ain't torture in that sense of the word... but it can definitly be torture if ya get my drift =3 the good kinda torture 😛

I know the Roman Empire had a form of punishment that involved it. Salt was poured on a person's feet and an animal licked it off. But they didnt do it for the tickling part of it, but rather to rub the soles of the feet raw. Then they would make the person walk on them all day. I believe it was used when someone was caught on property which they didnt belong.

I am sure it was used elsewhere as well. Maybe under Genghis Khan, as I know it was against their religious beliefs to spill blood of a person during torture/punishment.

Could be wrong, but thats what I have read over the years.

I don't believe the term is used loosely, I believe that tickling can be torturous. For someone who is really sesative, it can be a torturous thing. I'm not so much a "Tickle Fetish" kinda person i'm more of just a "Foot Fetish" kind of person, but tickling arouses me very much so, granted it can be considered torturous to my Girl Friend. So no, I don't believe its an oxymoron or a loosely used term, I think people are using it properly.

To me the only true "tickle torture" would be non-consentual. In my opinion you can't allow someone to torture you. The fact that you let it happen or want it to happen means it can't be true torture. So, even in the bdsm world I don't think anything consentual can be torture.

If the receiving person lets it happen, wants it to happen and especially enjoys it, then it can't be torture to me.

When I tie and tickle my girlfriend and I really drive her crazy we use the word "kill." She'll say, "man you really killed me tonight," which just means I worked her out and exhausted her. She would never call it "torture" because she likes it and keeps coming back for more haha.

However, clips might be different then relationships. If some chick who absolutely hates to be tickled allows herself to be tied and tickled just for the money then that might be half torture haha. Because she consented, but not because she enjoys it.
