The Low-Down
In my humble opinion, the PS2 is the best system on the market right now. Besides games like Metal Gear Solid 2, Twisted Metal Black, Tekken Tag and many others, it is fully backwards compatible with all Playstation 1 games(answering Sole Proprietor's question). That is the best thing Sony could have done. This gives the Playstation 2 an advantage over the X-Box. While we are on this topic, let me voice a few rumors I have heard. After X-Mas, Sony will be lowering the price of the Playstation 2 to $199.99, and will release an upgrade for the system. Remember that Graphics card that was released for the 64...well, this will be somewhat similar to that. It will enhance the graphics of the PS2 high above the X-Box standards, and make loading time a thing of the past. Take note, these are just rumors I have heard.
Next in line is the Gamecube, Nintendo's new baby. I know this will be a successful system. Nintendo is Nintendo. When people think of "video games" Nintendo is one of the first things that pops into their heads. It has lovable characters that have stayed with them from the start, and its multi-player games are very, very fun and addicting. I cannot even begin to guess the amount of time me and my friends spent playing games like Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Brothers, and Conker...or how much enjoyable time I spent playing Zelda and Extreme G. For all you people who believe that Nintendo only has games geared towards children, let me remind you that it had at least one or two Mature rated launch titles, and all the Resident Evil Titles will be re-released on the Gamecube with new gameplay and added footage. I like Nintendo, and I plan on buying a Gamecube this Christmas...but that is just me.
If I were any of you, I would not purchase an X-Box. Like Krokus, I find myself being a little biased towards the system. And, also like Krokus, I have heard complaints of Pentium 3 processor glitches in the X-Box. Microsoft should stick to computers. Out of the 40 or so launch titles, only a few look promising. Now lets look at the facts. Sony has staying power because of its good library of PS2 games and its backward compatibility with all the great PS1 games. Nintendo will always be around because of its characters and because...well, its Nintendo. X-Box on the other hand, has mediocre and less than mediocre launch titles, and no previous gaming reputation. My prediction, and hope, is that it will live a short life...and die out just as the Dreamcast did. Sorry if I yammered on and on too much, but once I started talking, I found it hard to stop.🙂
