I started typing this last night and felt it was worth sharing. Prepare for one hell of a headache....😀

Now think about yourself. You think you are a seperate and independent individual. But you are not. Without your father and mother, you would not be here. Without their fathers and mothers, your mother and father would not have been and you would not be....and so we can go back endlessly to the origin of the human race and before than and before that. You, at this moment, are the apex of a great triangle formed by all these previous individual lives. (In the course of 21 generations a person can accumulate more than one million anceastors.) In you they all exist today. They live in you today as truly as they lived individually in what we call time.

But in addition, just as you live today by virtue of all the other individuals and existences in the world at this moment, your body is sustained by the food cultivated and processed by inumerable persons throughout the present world, your body is covered by clothing produced by inumerable persons throughout the present world, your activities are conditioned by the activities of inumerable persons throughout the present world, your thinking is conditioned by the thinking of inumerable persons throughout the present world, so the bodies, the actions, the thinking of your anceastors who form the great triangle of which you are the present apex, have in turn been dependent upon and conditioned by inumerable persons existing in the world at the time they lived. So, if we consider that all past time is concentrated in you at this moment, we must also consider that all past space is also concentrated in you at this moment. Therefore you and every other being in the world at this instant actually each stand at the apex of a great cone, rather than a triangle.

But this is not all (*puff* COUGH COUGH) From you will come your children and their children's children; from your actions will come the results of your actions and the results of those results; and from your thoughts will come the future thinking and the thinking resulting from that thinking, ad infinitum. You hold within yourself the seed from which the future will spring. Just as much as you at this moment are the entirety of all past time, so are you the entirety of future time. Just as you at this moment represent the concentration of all past space, so you at this moment represent the concentration of all the space in the future. And this is true for each sentient or non-sentient existence in the endless cosmos. In you and in each one of them in this moment is all past, present and future time, space, life and thought.

In other words, all past, present and future existence exists within you......(now don'tcha feel like you've been taking yourself for granted? LOL)

That didn't give me a headache at all (my headache is for an entirely different reason... 😛).

The reason that that didn't give me a headache is because I studied Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity at university, which basically state this as a fact pretty early on. Each and every point in space-time has a light-cone, that contains all events that had an effect on, or which will in turn be affected by, that point in space-time. Because of relativity, this is limited to anything that could reach said point in spacetime travelling at or below lightspeed.

Hence you don't quite contain all of the past and all of the future, and all that you contain in the present is yourself (thankfully, as I wouldn't want to contain the rest of the universe 😛); and you don't really contain any of it, but you are linked to everything in your light-cone.

Now I betcha have a headache! 😛 LOL.

No headache about that at all. "Time", as it were, is not seperated.

Your last line (CC) is particularly true, and I can give an actual personal example of how it is so:

I am the last remaining male Jones in my family. I am an only child and my grandfather on my father's side never had another son, my father was the only one. And my grandfather is dead as is my father. So that effectively brings down all of this history of my family's bloodline (on my father's side), and everything that was, is, and will be onto ME.

I am the living destiny and fate of all that has come before me and all that will come after, long after my soul is reunited with my Heavenly Father. In order for me to exist further on this earth after I am gone, I must have a male child.

In a very real way, if I don't wed and have a son, the past, the present and the future as it concerns me and all those before me will cease to be.

Life and pedigrees are like a never-ending story most of the time. Unfortunately, my book does have an end if I choose it to.

However, in a much wider perspective, whether I am physically here or not, I am here in a much less tangible, but certain way. And that is through what I've carried down to family and friends, what I have done in my live and times and what I'll be remembered for. While eventually my identity will be lost, it will forward other people's legacies and inspire and inform. Whether successful or not, it is through me that others exist just as much as it is through them that I do too.

Actually CC, Evangelion explains this whole thing rather well. Its called the AT Field. 😛

I am, presently, at the apex of a triangle formed by generations upon generations of ancestors. I am the present-day result of inumberable generations of thoughts, thinking, decisions of my parents and generations before them. And through this, an inumberable amount of connectivity, knowledge cultivated within me ultimately leads to....................................................
me sittin here on my ass looking at and discussing tickling! LOL

I'm in the same situation; I am the last Cooper in my family line. I have one older sister; my father has one older sister; my grandfather had two sisters, and I think that the generation or two before that also had only one man each. Each and every generation it seems, their is only one male Cooper heir, and yet each time the line continued regardless. I wonder if I will perpetuate it...? Only time will tell...

I was going more for a spiritual concept rather than a scientific one koopacooper, but essentially the ideals are the same. Scientists have proven that within our own DNA sequence exists the entire genetic history of every species that has ever lived, leaving us with the potential to continue evolving in an inumerable variety of ways. To think Buddha had this concept already in mind without the use of high-tech scientific equipment or technical acumen....

Interesting how eastern belief structures had so much scientific merit to them even though they're years older than most prominent western faiths that are more readily accepted today....(not trying to start anything, just making an observation)

And yes Vlad, I recommend that series to anyone who is interested in the parallels of western and eastern belief structures......and of course if I just want to slowly drive them insane.....

Did I mention the first time I saw Evangelion I saw the whole series beginning to end in one sitting? I WAS NORMAL BEFORE THEN!!! LOL

Its alot to think about Cooper, thats for sure. But its something we shouldn't allow to decide our lives for us. If either of us is meant to have children we will, and not just because they'll be carrying on for us, but because we're suited to be fathers ourselves and family men and we were destined to live that experience.

As ironic as it seems, if I ever do have children, I've always sort of liked the idea of having a daughter over a son. Alot of men are determined to have a son, but I'm not (not saying I'm determined to have a daughter by comparision). I don't know why. I of course wouldn't love a son any less and would gladly take whatever God gives me, however many and when.

Yeah, I completely agree. I wouldn't have children unless I was absolutely sure it was what I wanted - and I too lean in the vauge direction of having a daughter. I wonder if there's some sort of psychological reason behind that...?

The reason I gave a rather more scientific viewpoint lies in the fact that I'm a strict atheist. On a few occasions, I've even been heard to exclaim "oh somebody else's god!" (seriously).

I consider myself a "spiritual atheist"....basically I have my own concepts of spirituality without the need for any gods or religious dogma.....actually it was in the movie Dogma that Serendipity the muse said it best:

Serendipity: When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith. Your hearts are in the right place, but your brains need to wake up.

I believe mankind is arrogant in the belief that they have even the slightest idea of whats really awaiting us on the other side. None of us will ever truly know until we get there and by that point I doubt it will be much of a concern to any of us. I like philosophy better than religion because that teaches how to live your life, not making it one long preperation ritual for the end.....

I personally figure that it would be bad for me to procreate.
Why?

Is it because I hate children? No I love them.

Is it because my fishies are floating dead in the tank? Err...Not that I know of and I don't intend to test this theory any time soon. But someday...

No. The answer is simple. I'm scared to have children in this great Canadian province of Saskatchewan because that's all we need is more fucking Ukranians.

ROFLMAO!!! Oooooh Canada....my home and native land.... (Well, not MY native land, but I do have a Grandfather from Norway who currently lives in Nova Scotia)

Its a paradox, similar to the chicken and egg story.

Side note, i find it interesting how society has changed, no longer is it a main goal to procreate and extend your family legacy. Up to the late 1800's, the worst thing to do to someone is to keep them from "spreading their seed"

Now its like, who cares. Im sorta one of em, dont know if i want kids but time may change a cold heart
