I'm in the process of beginning to configure a stage production of "Slaves in bondage", which was one of the first films to attempt to capture on-screen sexual nuance in the 1930s. Not only did it show women in their "underwear" (god forbid!) but it showed men drinking straight out of bottles! and swearing!

As you can see based on my facetious statements above, there is so much room for improvement with what we're able to get away with these days on TV or otherwise. I plan on also adding some elements of the japanese film "Imprint" such as the way they would discipline prostitutes without leaving visible scars.
Basically, I think the film could have been so much darker than the original "cautionary tale", but the story elements were solid and compelling, not to mention the era its set in.

But I'm little more than a writer/ conceptual director. I need experienced or at least interested contributors. If anyone's interested, I'd love to hear from you. I think we'll need songwriters, composers, actors, acrobats, dancers, singers, and set designers. This whole idea only struck me yesterday, so trust me when I say you won't be far behind, assuming that this picks up steam at all. i hope to hear some thoughts and opinions at least.

And this is to be what exactly? A little theater production? College drama project? I can't juggle, sing or compose music and you'll want a long-term commitment from your set designer, so there's little I'd be able to do to help you out. I wouldn't know where to show up for rehearsals anyway ("somewhere on planet earth" doesn't narrow it down sufficiently!) Well, keep us informed! Take plenty of cast photos!

Off-beat source material! I haven't seen "Women in Bondage"… '30s exploitation leaves me a little cold (way too preachy). Neither am I familiar with "Imprint", although I like some of Miike's other stuff ("Ichi the Killer" is goofy fun, and "Gozu" has a David Lynch stick planted firmly up its ass) so I might enjoy that one too. The only Masters of Horror DVD I've got is Stuart Gordon's "Dreams of the Witch House", which I didn't care for. Which means I'm due for better luck.

oh, it'll be a low budget production, but well written and hopefully less pedantic than the original. I plan on tweaking it a bit, because the story is solid, but so much more can be done with it. Its the 30s: no limitations on police, no FDA. So much that can be played with. Not to mention the bdsm elements that can be played with in the scenes such as the "oriental room". Lol
