I have been depressed for a while now and the only thing that has been helping me get through it is music what about you guys what do you do when your depressed?
 
I was put on an anti-depressant by my Doctor,but I've never really felt depressed.It is Citalopram
 
When someting gets me depressed, I listen to music as well. Mostly the soft music because I decided to listen to what matches my mood. Plus, if I'm very depressed, I take my time being alone without any company.
 
If you have a dog or cat spend some time with it, get to the sea,or country side outdoor pursuits,get involved with charity work.use music but pick it carefully, try if its not too painful to deal with the problem causing the depression, be careful not to overdo the drugs, booze ect.

I've always found that getting outside and having a long walk in the woods takes care of any issues I have had... and if I can't do that, I just try to get exercise in any way I can (although I loathe running, especially around a track).

If exercise isn't an option, I have a tendency to do exactly what you just said... listen to music... and then I either read or reach out and connect with others.


My vaguely philosophical witticism for these situations: You've just got to play the hand you are dealt in life... but, at least you can take the opportunity to pick up a few new cards every now and again!

ok are we talking a bit depressed? which many people suffer? or a more serious type of depression...

for the downs..i walk, read a good book..try to immerse myself in something to lose myself then..

for a more serious type of depression..you may need to see a specialist..if you find yourself depressed for more than two weeks in a row, definitely see someone..

I do something physical--play tennis, racquetball, or hit a punching bag...or masturbate profusely..it helps.

Music, both listened to and self-made, are incredibly cathartic...

And I echo Izzy's sentiment above regarding clinical depression...docs and someone objective to talk to are incredibly helpful.
 
I've never been depressed but when I'm just miserable, bouncy music and/or sitcoms work wonders (I especially recommend Father Ted).
 
I've had a few low points myself. As many have said, music always lifts my spirits.

I also get incredibally leeish :redface: A good dose of tk-induced adrenaline usually perks me right up! 😀

It depends on the sort... if it's a frustrated, aggressive depression I can usually work it off by pounding on a punching bag for about an hour. It's pretty satisfying and works off pounds and stress!

For real downers I like to sort of drift away from reality one way or another either through a good book or a good game or a session of role-playing if anyone's available and willing to play off of me. It really bugs me that when I get down I have a hard time writing on my own.

If I had someone to tickle, I imagine a few minutes with 'er would perk me right up. :ggrin: Something to be said for what we love, eh?

Sometimes, I'll write a rap about whatever it is that depresses me. Other times, I'll either play a violent video game or go to a strip club.

I like that witticism, for any situation!

When I'm feeling down, I spend far too much time online, usually on social-networking sites like this one. It's a way to not be so alone when you're alone. Oh, and I sometimes employ Camel26's fourth option! 😀

Arsonfrost, let me reiterate Isabeau's offer. PM me anytime. I too know more than I care to about depression.

And yes, music rules. If you listen to music, rather than turning on the radio, I'd put on something from your own collection, or hit Pandora.com or Youtube. That's to avoid the news. You wouldn't believe how turning off the news can lift a burden off your shoulders!

Aye... I'm not one to be depressed (really, the lowest I can get is some foul mood), but when I'm not in the best of moods, I work out so hard that I can't feel my muscles any more. Then, when you are so completely exhausted, nothing matters any more. You only see how dead-tired you are.
 
Hmmm... well I spent so much time in depressions that I managed to live normally with it. It is like everyday to me, nothing special.

i don't find that a bit funny at all as my mother committed suicide..she wasn't herself but it was still suicide..she wasn't competent..but it was still suicide..

think before you post something so terribly insensitive..you just might be hitting a bit too close to home for comfort..

Heroin's always nice! But I suppose if that's not your thing, you could always drink whiskey all day. That'll perk anybody up!
