The last few times I have done a reboot, I get a message that says "new hardware found, searching for drivers". Then a new hardware installation wizard pops up. I have not added any hardware to my computer. Any ideas?
One piece of hardware may have inadvertently become uninstalled. Have you installed any new programs or software updates (including Windows updates) recently?
You can check to see if some piece of hardware isn't properly installed. What version of Windows are you running? I'll direct you to the Device Manager (If you know where it is, open it and let me know).
Well, the first few steps are the same. Open the Start menu and find "Control Panel." Open it.
Do you see a "System" icon in that window? Open it, and let me know what it says.
Okay, now we know. In that System window, click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" button. Look through the list; do you see anything (you may need to expand sections by clicking the plus icons) that has a question mark or other symbol over it?
The unknown device is the problem. I don't know if it is your printer or not. You might want to try reinstalling the printer, if you have the software CD that came with it (or are able to download the drivers for it). Do you need a walk-through for that, or do you know how to do it? I'm happy to provide if needed.
