I'm a big boy now. I'm not supposed to be getting all misty-eyed over a pop song!
A lot of you are probably familiar with Coldplay's hit from some time back called "Clocks". Well, it just so happens that the Norwegian electro-dance auteurs Royksopp did a wonderful remix of that tune (their "Throbbing Heart" remix as it's called). One day, it mysteriously showed up on this video web site whose name you'd recognize in an instant. I must have listened to it about 25 times so far. I still can't get it out of my head!
Naturally, I checked all the usual places to get my own copy of it - Amazon, Itunes, no go. Local mall record shops, deadsville. Anyway, I end up on Royksopp's Wikipedia page, and I find out that the song was only released as the B-side of a limited-edition vinyl (1,000 copies only). 🙁 Why do bands and their record companies do this? (Rumor has it that illicit MP3 copies may be floating around, but I won't defile myself by resorting to music piracy!)
It's been a very long time since I've obsessed over a song like this. I've been collecting music for years. I'm familiar with dozens of other tunes which are just as good or better. Are Coldplay or Royksopp using subliminal mind-programming? Have I hit my second adolescence? Or is this just a killer pop tune which is getting far less exposure than it deserves?
