After we had originally buried this comic line due to lack of interest, it has now become resurrected!
When we initially released issue #1 at the end of 2008, the artwork wasn't really up to my standards. I'm getting pretty picky in my old age, and I didn't feel the style really accentuated the characters as well as it could.
Even though I received a lot of good feedback on the concept of the storyline, I was kind of bummed the first issue didn't sell well. It is a lighter book that wasn't nearly as serious or brooding as The Agencies or The Ruthless, and it's nice to have a change of pace once in awhile.
But lo and behold sales miraculously took off soon after I decided to suspend further production, and here we are!
And now we have an art team assembled that is really unlike anything we've produced at Agency Publishing. To say the artists have captured the spirit of the characters is a vast understatement. They really brought these girls to life, and I was just blown away by their expertise in the area. For the past year, I have had a few exhaustive searches to find great talent in a few key areas. One of the areas I felt I was lacking is I didn't have a staff colorist that could handle a variety of different styles. After putting the word out and receiving dozens of submissions/portfolios, I chose the colorist that will fit our projects well. And after sending out numerous feelers on line artists, we found one that is just great.
The attached pinup was just a sketch concept of the new character Ashley in issue #2. Ashley is a school friend of Maddie, a redhead, and a massive bitch. That comes across fairly well in issue #2, and will be further accentuated as the story continues. She's a bit of salt in an otherwise sweet cast of characters. I liked this pinup quite a bit, and it will probably serve as the cover to issue #2.
