Hi Admins,

What do you think of the idea of creating one of those Google Maps where people can add their own location, so we can sorta see where everyone is located around the world? I think it'd be neat to see where the largest congregations of tickle peeps are located.

Then, we could sticky-topic the thing, so that people could add their locations over time.

Ermm...I was talking about one of those Google Maps that just shows a little balloon over a city, not someone's street addy or anything. This whole community-building thing is sorta lost on you, innit it? 🙄

I've seen something like that on other forums. I believe it's a modification that can be installed into the board. I'll research it and see what exactly it does to see if it's suitable for here.

Update:

After looking at the available modifications for Googlemap they don't seem to have the ability to output a generalized location for members. It's rather specific with latitute and longitude. GPS anyone? Anyhoo, I don't believe we'll implement this mod as cool of an idea as it first appeared.

I don't know if people want others knowing what street they live on, or even what house if there were any kind of clues that might give it away from past conversations you may have had with people (ie- "I live in a farming district"). I've seen alot of those updated maps and such, and they're very accurate alot of the time provided the scans are recent. I not only found my own house, but I could zoom in and everything.

My bad, then. I was thinking they had a map where members could place their generalized locations, as in towns and cities. If the only way to have one is with specific locations, then I don't think it's a wise idea, either. If it showed just generalized towns, I think it's be interesting, as there seem to be specific tickle-regions, where large hordes of ticklephiles reside. Specifically, the Northeastern seaboard of the USA seems to be a hotspot for tickle-fans...

If you use google maps which has satellite imagery at around 10m resolution I believe, you can get pretty damn accurate locations. As Vlad said it is easy enough to find specific buildings. Now there is something to keep mind here, which is you don't have to put in the exact coordinates of your home, just general coordinates of the town or city you live near. Also I know that there are other programs/map systems that allow you to put pinpoint places on a genral map of the United States. The whole issue is a matter of scale. Another way of doing this would just to have a database of city and state where people lived and let members have access to it. So you could look up Washington for instance and find out there are 3 TT members in Seattle.

I actually somehow didn't think of this until right now, but another concern would be perverts, stalkers, etc. using this information. If a pervert or criminal knows, for example, that there are 57 more potential victims in a given area and that area is closer to them then the one that only had 11, then providing even this much information is easily misused in the wrong hands as they may migrate to that area where there are more opportunities to strike.

Basically, it takes out a large portion of the randomness for them, or it informs them of their chances for success in a larger pool of people. It lets them know whether its worth it or not to spend their time there. While a perv can accost anyone at anytime, this example is assuming that these particular pervs like to accost other fetishists.

Of course, this is just one reason why its not a good idea, in addition to the privacy issue, which would appear to be the larger concern.

I'd be up for that. that would really help when trying to arrange gatherings. I dont see the problem with stating your city, because its stated under locations under your avatar anyways.

Well, you don't have to even provide that piece of information, either. However, if you used this map idea, then you would have to put this information in the system if you wanted to participate, which would mean you're providing the information either way which sort of defeats the purpose of omitting it from your profile in the first place, since the map would be anonymous and people wouldn't know you're in that group of people in that area unless you stated so here on the boards.

The information on the map wouldn't account for people who don't want to put their location in their profile, and alot of people don't do that. The big disadvantage is that there might actually be more people you could meet up with in your area, but they're unaccounted for. It would be a shame if there were actually more people in your area, but you traveled farther when you didn't have to.
