very occasionally these days, someone with the right book, the right ingredients and a bit of luck manages to catch themselves a real fairy for their christmas tree
the fairy, though a little embarrassed, is not harmed by this, and is well looked after - given nectar and little bits of pie and fruit (and some custard if she happens to like it)
what does make it difficult is if the pixies get to hear of it, because then little groups of them come in the house at night to tease and tickle the poor helpless fairy
a soft feather for under her arms, a tiny pixie fingernail drawn round and round in circles over her tummy and waist, a small paintbrush from the family's desk drawer lazily stoked up and down the length of her thighs... and, of course, a feather for her dainty feet
often her fairy sisters will pay her a tickling visit too, just for being silly enough to get caught in the first place
in fact i wouldn't be at all surprised if it wasn't them who told the pixies, as pixies have much more of an appetite for tickling - the fairies will get distracted and quite likely end up tickling each other (which is a lot of fun to watch actually) and then go and wash their hair, or hunt for ribbons
the pixies enjoy a good long tickle much more, especially if they find a nice underdressed helpless fairy, and you will see they have left her holding an uncorked vial of their favourite ticklishness potion, so even when they are not there, the sweet vapour of ticklishness will waft and tease around her, keeping her all nice and highly strung and sensitive for their next visit, or maybe for when a passing mouse will investigate her with it's twitchy tickly whiskers
happy whatever you happen to be celebrating at this time of year
