Well, the era's about right, and Bishop always spruces up a thread.
Bishop was like the Richard Corben of B&D art. I mean that in the best possible way. Whatever became of him, anyhow?
He was the greatest of the greats, and a personal friend through all my years at House of Milan. Though there were many years between us, they all vanished in the many common threads we had - bondage, old movies, and motorcycles being three of them. He was my mentor of sorts, and as he often said- I was
his because I actually
did what he drew about. He backed my whole idea of Tied & Tickled magazine from the start while others scoffed at tickling ever being it's own fetish and said the magazine was doomed for failure.. but because of
his backing and offering up
his artwork for it, they went along with my idea and it was a great success.
His shading and airbrushing were fantastic, but more so the erotic panic of the tortured ladies were caught perfectly in a grimace or the strain on a limb.
While he could be difficult to get along with for some, I think it was just the artist's mentality at work. He was a loner. He was passionate. His artwork was fantastic. He hated cheap garbage and wouldn't bow to such. He always said for me to keep those standards.. and I have.
Few knew Bish well, I think I did to a point. He loved old movies as I did. Because I was in entertainment, he took my first 8X10 headshots. He backed away from the bdsm community when all the cheap T&A magazines hit the market and advised me to do the same. He had no interest at all in the Internet. We stayed in touch, saw him whenever possible, wrote back and forth, rode a few times, then his health started to fade a bit.. more so, I think he was just bored and tired of life.
Bish took his own life just after his 46th birthday. We'd spoken a month before. I'd sent him a video and he was going to doodle a cover for it.
None of us ever saw it coming. I remember the hole it left in me, and still leaves to this day.
On my office wall I have a few original drawings he made just for me, one following my sorority exploits. They're probably worth a mint now. They've never been seen by the public, signed to me by him, and only those that attend my private theme events have glimpsed them.
As long as they hang on my wall, he's still alive to me.
