I was just wondering about something because i do have depression but i have noticed that when i get depressed i start to crave tickling like i want to be tickled alot more is that just me? i start thinking about tickling more when i'm depressed.

I think it's because that is something you know makes you happy. However, there is something I always wondered,I always wanted to see if tickling would help depression so,next time you are depressed find someone to tickle you and see if it helps make it go away. Also,I have been meaning to give you a sight to check out

Thanks for thats marie and yes the next time i'm depressed and i get tickled i let you know if it makes me feel better

Tickling does raise endorphin levels in the brain, God's natural anti-depressant, so yes, it helps with depression.

hmm well although the idea sounds nice..when you are truly in a depression..which i was that one time..you don't want anything..i didn't anyway..

Tickling if you love it makes you feel excitement, produces joy and it's a huge turn on if you have a fetish. Also when you tickle/get tickled you escape for a moment from all the bad thoughts that troubles you, so i guess that's why you feel less depressed.
But though it works for you as an anti-depressant and offers relief, i believe you shouldn't count only on that to overcome your depression. Anti-depressants offer temporary relief, they do not cure the root of the problem.

That's how I picked up my fetish, through depression. That kind of shows me that fetishes are not normal and they usually develop from negative environmental factors. But that's just me, no offense to anyone else.

Well, how do you cure the root of the problem?

Izzy often times I just don't feel like doing anything or I get my nervous tics out of nowhere and start shaking.

With a combination of medication (if necessary), talk therapy and natural supplements. [pet peeve]My caveat with medications is that some doctors prescribe them carelessly, cluelessly and with no regard for the patient's well-being. Some anti-D's have negative sexual side-effects. I believe there are alternatives out there which don't mess with one of our most important faculties.[/pet peeve]

If your tics are from Tourette syndrome, flax seed oil might help (the kind sold in opaque black plastic bottles in the refrigerator cases of health food stores). A tablespoon every day (your mileage may vary) might do the trick.

I have tried a million antidepressants they were all SSRIs and none worked at all so,I am done with that.I just can't deal with them anymore. One had me crying nonstop it was awful and I never want to go through that again.

No,I thought it was from anxiety. The neurologist said it was nothing neurological that it was all psychological but I looked up stuff and came across nervous tics and the description and symptoms all fit perfectly.Nothing can cure it.Muscle relaxants can help but I am not going down that route since they are addictive

Then get tickled as often as possible. No joke. Anything that helps.

I want medical research done on this. This is one of my pet things that just makes me wonder if we're retarded as a species. Here we have something that boosts chemical levels that help fight depression naturally, and NO research at all that I'm aware of (except Laugher years ago talking his Dr into a couple blood tests).

I did 10 solid years of depression till I was 20. This sort of thing is pretty near and dear to my heart. And I had bad bad (read catastrophic) results with meds (medicating a teen should be a last resort, not a first). Got to be better ways to deal with it. And even if it only takes the edge off, that's something.

Ok, rant off.

Christopher

I agree with both of your points (need for research, antidepressants as a last resort).

My depression was so severe that medicine was the only cure to get me off that couch finally after a month..trust me i didn't want to take it..but i really had no option..and now i'm still on paxil, but would love to get off of it, but whenever i ask the doctor he says..we want you happy...i hate having to rely on meds..i truly do...but some depressions will not be cured without medications..of course my depression was unusual..due to the terrible way my mother died, and me blaming myself..

Marie i get nervous ticks too i'm glad i know someone else that gets them too

I see all points.Izzy I can see where medicine has helped you and what works is the most important thing.
I told Arson to get tickled for the specific reason of having research done.If it helps him then we have something to show (No,it is not scientifically based research and won't count for anything but it is a start.).If it works for Arson then, others can try it and if it helps them then we can bring it before a medical board, though we will quite literally be laughed off at first.

It's been proven time and again that human contact and/or sex is essential for happiness. (One's mileage may vary).

Another particularly nefarious side effect of certain anti-D's, mainly SSRI's it seems, is anorgasmia. No one should ever tolerate being put on such meds unless the doctor can swear in blood that there's no viable alternative.

In any case, the hard part of all this is finding a doctor who'll listen (I mean really listen) to you first and drug company salesmen last.

With this in mind, flaxseed oil (the kind from a health food store's refrigerator case) can reduce tics due to Tourette Syndrome. Nicotine can too (which is why it seems a lot of people with TS smoke) but I'll give you one guess as to which is less toxic. Also, a supplement called GABA can reduce anxiety, though this should be handled with caution and under a naturopath's or supplement-literate doctor's supervision. (So many doctors just go "duh" when you ask them about matters of nutrition or supplements).

Well, i'll be the test subject to see if tickling helps depression.

awesome, tell us if it works on you and if it does we need to add more to the list of subjects.List how you felt before, after,an hour after, then a day later and lastly a week later. Also note how long you were tickled for.

Ok i'll let you know

Interesting thing related to nicotine. My wife has learned is that tobacco naturally contains MAOIs. An early form of anti-depressant. She says they're not prescribed anymore, as the SSRIs or whatever have taken over. This can also explain why smoking goes up dramatically in stressful situations. It's not just psychological, cigarettes have a naturally occurring anti-depressant in them. Its not in the nicotine, but it is in the tobacco.

Nicotine can too (which is why it seems a lot of people with TS smoke)

I wasn't saying they should never be prescribed, Izzy. Sometimes meds are the right answer. One of our friends has a little girl that MUST have meds for her ADHD. Even with them, she is astonishingly hyper oft times.

But it should NEVER be the default. Always last option.

But yeah, I like Kop's statement about swearing in blood. I had horrific problems with psych meds when I was an early teen. I really didn't need them, I was just introverted and hitting the natural chemical shifts that age brings. but I got them, and it was a very short time before my mom took me off them. And I never saw that quack doctor again. And I never took a psych med again.

= I think tickling would definitely help someone who's depressed. Aside from the stimulatory effect of the endorphins released, more importantly I think its the intimacy with the tickler that helps.

I for one have been in severe pits of despair and would have loved to have had help to get me through it . . . by any means necessary. I don't know about other people, but if I would have felt so much better so much sooner had there been someone who could give me a nice tickling . . . because that would mean she would care enough, she could be that intimate.

well, i'm gonna be getting tickled by my female friend sometime this week and i'm stressed and a little depressed so i'll see how i feel after.

Okay remember to write down how you felt before, how long you were tickled for, what day it is,how you felt after, and then, when you start feeling sad again.
