I have a certain fondness - OK, a very great fondness - for stories featuring tickling inflicted by a machine (a specialized tickle-device, or a robot or computer). Who else here likes this sort of thing, and why?

In my case, I think it's the idea of mechanical tirelessness, remorselessness, and thoroughness that (ahem) tickles my imagination.

Also, the very passionlessness of machine-tickling is often an advantage to my mind. In a lot of stories, the 'lers turn out to be vile sadistic bastards (even in stories I write, when I don't want them to be so). So it puts the vileness back a step to have a machine perform the actual tickling.

So what about you? Or if you don't like machine-tickling in stories, what don't you like about it?

i agree with you. I think the magic of stories with ticking machines controlled by a computer are that they can work without remorlessness basicaly... and from the captive perspective... she cant process the torture and also, not being able to blame anyone for what happens to her.. i like the idea of a complex controlled by a computer using her in different bondage devices, keeping her under total control and having her pretty attended, not only for tickling... for other.. well, natural reactions. and of course, caring of her basic needs, like bathing her and keeping her in shape for more tickling and stimulation. If interested, let me know, i have more ideas about this i have been thinking for a while

I had an idea sometime ago of being able to fit vibrating tickling devices to your woman and linking it to the internet, so she gets short blasts of tickling without knowing when it will happen. Picture the seen...youe lady is sitting in a very important meeting when the buzzers under her feet vibrate...can she make the sale? LOL

Another fan here. You could also have the device use skin resistance and heart rate to know what works and what doesn't so it could keep the victim on the edge for longer.

Combine that with an MR scan of the brain during the process and some way to record and "play back" that and you could remove the limitations of the nervous system, over stimulation & resultant loss of response.

In my "tee pod" stories, inspired by Scavenger's artwork, the tee pods are an organic/psionic version of "know what works" and "record/playback."

In particular, the squids of the squidcat alliance have an artform of "human nervous system impulses produced by tickling." The current stories are set during a human vs squidcat war (where the squidcats pacify POWs using the tee pods - they consider this much more civilized than the alternatives) But I have some vague story ideas about humans being offered "recording contracts" after the war.

Tickling devices are a double edged sword for me as a writer~ on one hand, I love them, the idea of its cold application and skill in particular is enthralling. However I risk losing an element of tickling that can be absolutely important for any reader (even myself~) and that is the connection one has to the tickling itself.

To combat that, I find myself having to focus on the scenario completely from a ticklee' perspective. Focusing less on the cold nature of the machine itself and the actual ordeal the ticklee is having to suffer through. The entire spectrum~ the bondage, the tickling itself, the environment.

Though this works, by focusing too much on a 'lee, perspective tickling machines can be difficult to add that 'ler attitude and flair that good tickling stories employ. The teasing, the thought process behind the tickling itself~ the feelings of the tickler and the dynamic between them and the 'lee.

Maybe having a machine operator, someone over an intercom~ or a particularly wicked A.I. would work. <3

There's a number of things I enjoy about tickling devices, despite their challenges. I love them too much to let them bother me. x3

You know there's a really great story over on TMF with an A.I. robot tickler, they never wrote a sequel though when it was obviously a sequel ending >:

A tangent that needs to be explored in tickling/robotics(robotickling?) is the rise of nanotech. As computers become increasingly tinier, it would be possible to create little robotic insects specifically for tickling. They would have the advantage of being able to finagle their way below clothing. There's already a natural human revulsion to bugs & critters, but in this case there wouldn't be the hazard of biting/stinging as with the real, living thing. Heck, there's already some kid's toys out on the market with lil' wiggling insect-looking thingees!

Mmm~ that's an interesting concept, one that caters to a less visual audience though. Nano though are far smaller than bugs~ they're almost germ like in size... so we'd be talking something almost invisible being capable of tickling. <3

I was referring more to the chips & such that might power and control such tiny robotics. But yeah, like you point out, nanotech is typically even tinier than that.

And of course, going under clothing is only one way they might seek out and tickle their sensitive prey.

Might be fun to have a story about sorority sisters where a building's bug problem has been eliminated by bug bombs and such, only to have a certain girl the target of a robotic cockroach swarm(or other mecha-insects). Maybe she's the target of some uber-nerd who she spurned or some nonsense. None of her dorm sisters believe her, of course...

I have a vivid imagination, I'm just too damned busy/lazy to write.

This is as tangential to the discussion as it gets, but while rooting around in a newsgroup devoted to comic books of yore, i stumbled across this odd Archie moment. Granted, he's being shaken by the robot, but that's not what i originally thought when I first discovered it.
