I ment to post this yesterday, but I was having problems loading the site for some reason, anyways, here it is. Sorry it took so long:
Aright, well that tickling program I told you all about is finally completed (at least for right now). I still fear some bugs may be hiding within the code (I’ve found that they hide damn well), so if there are any major problems, please get hold of me as soon as possible ([email protected]) so I can try and fix the problem before too many people get the program. I don't really think any big problems exist though, as I have tested the program quite a bit.
I HAVE set up an FTP server to not only serve the program, but also to act as a....nexus, if you will, for the character files that will (hopefully) be created by people with this program. Basically, I have given out the ability for anyone to sign into my server and, with the password and user name (which are pretty easy to remember 🙂) they can both download the program and/or character files, and later upload character files they have made with the program to the same FTP server. Don't worry, it's not as hard as it sounds, and it will benefit everyone 🙂. I have pretty specific instructions (I think) on the ftp server. All you have to do to connect is open your web browser (I'm not sure if all browsers will work or not, but I know IE6 works, and I think most of them have this capability): ftp://scat.hopto.org/. After you go there, it should ask you for a username and password, and they are:
Username: Theater
Password: tickle
(make sure the password is lowercase)
(some people were having problems logging in, so a more direct way of signing onto the FTP server, where you do not have to enter the user name or password, would be following this link: ftp://theater:[email protected]/. This link has the username and password pre-inserted, so you do not have to be type them into an input box.)
After logging in, read the readme file (README BeforeUsingServer.txt - you should beable to just double click it to read it). Eventually, the readme will tell you to download the CharacterCreatorSetup.zip file, and after you do that, there will be yet another readme to explain how to install it. There’s also a readme that is extracted when you install the program itself using the setup file. Yea I know, there are a bunch of readme's, and they can be annoying sometimes, but are necessary. You think reading them is bad, try MAKING them all 😛. Well anyways, I know it sounds kind of confusing in text, but as long as your not computer illiterate it shouldn't be a big problem. Follow the link, read the file, and download away. If you have any trouble that isn't answered by the readme files or FAQs included within the program, please don't hesitate to get ahold of me at [email protected] to ask any questions (comments can also be directed there, if you wish).
There IS one problem with the program I have noticed, but I decided not to bother changing the whole visual of the program before releasing to fix it, because it may not be a problem to many people. In very low-resolution computers, part of the program (it is very long vertically) is cut off, restricting you from reading the entire response of a character. For right now, changing your resolution (making it smaller) to show more of the screen is the best, and only solution. If there is a great demand for it, I will create another version of the program for lower screen resolution people, just let me know if it is causing problems for you.
Well, I believe that's all I have to tell you guys aside from stuff you will learn from using the program and reading the many readme files. It's not a difficult program to learn, and after the first one or two characters, using the program to make or read characters should be almost effortless. Keep in mind to create as many character files as you want, and then upload them to the FTP server, and/or post them on the forums so people can see them (it might be helpful to name the files something descriptive). Also remember that you can sign onto that same FTP server and look for character files that others have uploaded. You can then download these to your hard drive, and then load them with the program. Other than that, I’m excited to see how you guys like the program. I know I become a bit repetitive when saying this constantly, but please, don’t hesitate to send any questions or comments to me in E-Mail ([email protected])…other than all of that, good luck!
