I ment to post this yesterday, but I was having problems loading the site for some reason, anyways, here it is. Sorry it took so long:

Aright, well that tickling program I told you all about is finally completed (at least for right now). I still fear some bugs may be hiding within the code (I’ve found that they hide damn well), so if there are any major problems, please get hold of me as soon as possible ([email protected]) so I can try and fix the problem before too many people get the program. I don't really think any big problems exist though, as I have tested the program quite a bit.

I HAVE set up an FTP server to not only serve the program, but also to act as a....nexus, if you will, for the character files that will (hopefully) be created by people with this program. Basically, I have given out the ability for anyone to sign into my server and, with the password and user name (which are pretty easy to remember 🙂) they can both download the program and/or character files, and later upload character files they have made with the program to the same FTP server. Don't worry, it's not as hard as it sounds, and it will benefit everyone 🙂. I have pretty specific instructions (I think) on the ftp server. All you have to do to connect is open your web browser (I'm not sure if all browsers will work or not, but I know IE6 works, and I think most of them have this capability): ftp://scat.hopto.org/. After you go there, it should ask you for a username and password, and they are:
Username: Theater
Password: tickle
(make sure the password is lowercase)

(some people were having problems logging in, so a more direct way of signing onto the FTP server, where you do not have to enter the user name or password, would be following this link: ftp://theater:[email protected]/. This link has the username and password pre-inserted, so you do not have to be type them into an input box.)

After logging in, read the readme file (README BeforeUsingServer.txt - you should beable to just double click it to read it). Eventually, the readme will tell you to download the CharacterCreatorSetup.zip file, and after you do that, there will be yet another readme to explain how to install it. There’s also a readme that is extracted when you install the program itself using the setup file. Yea I know, there are a bunch of readme's, and they can be annoying sometimes, but are necessary. You think reading them is bad, try MAKING them all 😛. Well anyways, I know it sounds kind of confusing in text, but as long as your not computer illiterate it shouldn't be a big problem. Follow the link, read the file, and download away. If you have any trouble that isn't answered by the readme files or FAQs included within the program, please don't hesitate to get ahold of me at [email protected] to ask any questions (comments can also be directed there, if you wish).

There IS one problem with the program I have noticed, but I decided not to bother changing the whole visual of the program before releasing to fix it, because it may not be a problem to many people. In very low-resolution computers, part of the program (it is very long vertically) is cut off, restricting you from reading the entire response of a character. For right now, changing your resolution (making it smaller) to show more of the screen is the best, and only solution. If there is a great demand for it, I will create another version of the program for lower screen resolution people, just let me know if it is causing problems for you.

Well, I believe that's all I have to tell you guys aside from stuff you will learn from using the program and reading the many readme files. It's not a difficult program to learn, and after the first one or two characters, using the program to make or read characters should be almost effortless. Keep in mind to create as many character files as you want, and then upload them to the FTP server, and/or post them on the forums so people can see them (it might be helpful to name the files something descriptive). Also remember that you can sign onto that same FTP server and look for character files that others have uploaded. You can then download these to your hard drive, and then load them with the program. Other than that, I’m excited to see how you guys like the program. I know I become a bit repetitive when saying this constantly, but please, don’t hesitate to send any questions or comments to me in E-Mail ([email protected])…other than all of that, good luck!

Should work fine

Actually - I'm checking the log here - two people have tried so far. One got in and downloaded the stuff fine, the other was trying to sign on anonymously and couldn't get in, which is ok because I set up the server to not allow anonymous users.

I made the user name and password in order to keep random people who may guess or accidentally enter my IP from signing onto this server and being able to upload things. If you type in the user name as Theater, and the password as Tickle, it should work fine.

A more direct link, which should bring you directly to the ftp site without having to enter the User name or password is: ftp://theater:[email protected]/. That might help ya. If a problem persists, E-Mail me ([email protected]).

I got it to work and tried out the Linda char. Wow, you did a great job with this. It should be fun to see what chars others make. However, my only problem was that the window that the program itself is in, is larger then my screen. Meaning I can't see the last 2 or so lines of the responses. Other then that though, I think you have a great thing going here. I look forward to future updates.

Ack, I see. Look above at the original post in this thread, about the second to last paragraph talks about this problem....I didn't think it would affect many people.....but I'll change the visual around, try and make it more square shaped so it will fit more peoples screens...and then put a different version on the ftp server for all the people having problems with this. I'll post about it when I finish.

Looks good!! I also though can not see the bottom of the text box. I am running at a resolution of 1024x768. I will definately have a go at making my own scenario!

Oops! Having trouble!! I created a test character and when I ran it all of the options were greyed out! Suggestions?
Also is there a way to edit a file once it has been saved and the create program has been exited?

Make sure you pick a tool. If you don't pick a tool all of the options will be grayed out, because currently the psychokinetic tickling option is not available 😛, which basically means you need some kind of tool to tickle her with. Just make sure one of the three tool (fingers, a feather, or a toothbrush, whichever one you wrote responses for) radio buttons are clicked and it should work. Also, make sure you put at least a few responses in, because the program will automatically gray out any spots with no responses.

I'll have to play around with it some more because Acorna used it and got it to work! guess I was doing something wrong!
Thanks!

Ah, almost missed this question.

God, sorry ness, realized I had totally skipped over one of your questions:

Well, no, as of now I do not have a way to do this...once you save and then exit the character creation program, the character is done. If you really want to change something (I.E. a spelling error that is driving you crazy) you can actually open up the .chr file (using notepad or some similar word editing program) and change the code of the file.

It's not as difficult as it sounds, as long as you don't change any of the actual "code words" (I.E. anything that looks like: "&tool:" is a code word used in deciphering the text). As long as you steer clear of that stuff, you can edit it directly with most word editors. It wouldn't be too hard for me to make another option: "edit file" on the main menu that would make this easier and more user friendly to do this. If more than a few people would want that, let me know (post or E-Mail) and I will begin work on it.

On another note guys, I'm happy but sad at the same time. My server has served well over 150 megabytes since the release of this program, and the program being about 1.5 megabytes, this means that quite a few people have downloaded the program so far. This is nice, except the total amount of uploads remains at an amazing, and I quote: "0 KB"! It is nice to see so many people downloading the program and Linda, but it would be nice to see some of you throwing out characters of your own. As someone has already said, Linda is getting tired.

I am actually thinking about posting in the stories section, and asking the writers of Tickle Theater to help us out in this area (I figure they would be best suited for this kind of thing). Remember, the success of this program depends on you guys making characters yourselves. The more characters, the more popular it becomes to other people, and in turn the more characters made from those people, which in the end benefits you.

Other than that, I’d like to thank everyone who’s given me compliments on the programs design, so far. The comments I have received to date have been overwhelmingly positive. Keep in mind, though, making good use of the program would be a far better compliment 😛.

Thanks for answering my question! I will definately put my meager writing skills to the test and work on a char of my own. May take a while as I dont know how well I can write it!

This reminds me of Interactive Fiction games. 🙂

Enough joking. 😀
This prog is QUITE interesting, and can be a perfect "outlet" for writers around.

Maybe, with some tinkering, this program could be turned into a full blown adventure. If it can handle complex action-reaction nodes, you could "win" the game by tickling the victim the right way.

Just a thought. 🙂

About programmers around: ever heard of FKiss dolls?

Reg's.

Yeah I used to have FKiss. I may still if my other computer ever decides to spring back from the dead. It is a REALLY cool program and I always wanted to create my own but never found a program to do it with.
I am working (off and on) on a paper dolls website for kids that is very similar to FKiss but without all the nifty complex layering.

-> nessonite

I'm not sure if I am ontopic BUT I must notify new versions of FKiss feature a complex scripting system.

This allows to taylor action-reaction response from the doll. For instance you could pinch it [him/her] and the doll would cry.

You could tickle and...

Ticklish FKiss dolls are QUITE rare. I could count just a couple of them.
On Otakuworld there are many dolls, and there is a VERY talented artist/fkiss programmer who's done a full SMBD series. Too bad now site requires subscription.

If there is some interest we could start a thread and involve programmers and artists around the forum.

Maybe it's not everybody's cup of tea, but making ticklish fkiss dolls could be fun. 🙂

Hi, that sounds very interessting, but, please tell me, where i can find this program.
I think i´m to silly for that 🙂

Thank you all.

A few answers here

Hi, that sounds very interessting, but, please tell me, where i can find this program.

I have set up an FTP server to serve the files. Just click here: ftp://theater:[email protected]/ and that should take you where you need to be. Read the first post of this thread for more info on downloading and the way the program works.

It would actually be rather easy for me to create a "tickling game" adventure program like you describe, even possibly more advanced ones, but the problem is making it so other users can create these games as well with my program. As you know, the program is made so not only can you read others characters, but so you can make your own. That would force me to make almost a kind of programming language for all you guys to use to create these little games as opposed to simply writing responses to a character with. This would be....very difficult, to say the least heh...but maybe if you are a bit more specific about what you would want it to be like I can look at it with more depth and see how hard it would really be. Maybe I'll figure out an easier way to do it.

We’ve broken the 200 MB download mark, and poor Linda still has no friends 😛. I’m going to try and make another character with my inexpert writing skills sometime soon, but I know there are much better writers out there that could help us with our lack of characters.

I can't access it :~~~~
Ack, sorry about that guys. Had some problems with the server and an accidental IP change (damn ISP) anyways - the new location of the server has been updated in both this post and my signature (it is currently ftp://12.248.73.99/ instead of ftp://12.213.31.53/). Please excuse any confusion this caused, it should work perfectly fine, now.

Tnx for your reply. 🙂

My idea is still hazy, but maybe it's still feasible within the present prog's structure.

I'll elaborate more later, though. Tnx for your attention. 🙂

So, i downloaded the program...
may be i did something wrong, but i think it´s a kind of boring....
(you can only write and talk about your interessts.)
i thought you ccan see an animated person, or something like that....
did i something wrong, or is it all???......

The program is young yet. There is plenty of room for expansion and additions. I think it is a way cool start. 🙂

Yes. I agree. 🙂

Besides I can't program, so I can only "speculate". 😀

As I was saying, it's more an interactive fiction than a graphic simulation.

Right now it's more like an episode novel. It allows you to write a story broken up into different actions. What it features is "level responses". That is: you decide a bodypart-tool combination, click on it and the program returns a description.

Trick is: you can make up a description BUT you can also read a story made up by someone else.

Actually, it's way funnier to read something done by somebody - you have the surprise factor.

What prog does NOT feature right now is complex if/then noding. You can't tickle the victim in different ways. You can only read the description in an order that suits you. That's it.

TheaterViewer said he could add pics - but he has copyright issues to take care of - and right now noding is out his scope.

Consider this a developed beta. But give it time to grow. 🙂

Tnx to Viewer for his time and for sharing this prog.

Hmm, well the program allows you to open other peoples tickling characters....and create your own (with up to 3 useable tools and 14 tickling spots)....but rather than that....hmmm

Ohhh, actually, there is something you might be doing wrong. If you start up the program, stand up, spin around three times fast, and then click your heels together saying "Abra-Kadabra", a plethora of beautiful women will be materialized in front of you, bound spread eagle and naked for your pleasure 😛. So if you forgot that, the program might seem boring, yes. Hah, I know, technology today!

Moral of the story - programming is hard, ESPECIALLY integrating animation, ESPECIALLY when you are as bad an artist as I. I very much doubt the program will ever have talking, moving animations to go along with the responses, although pictures might be somewhere in the future. Any practical suggestions for the program are welcome, though. I'll see what I can do to make it more interesting for you all. I’m probably going to have a new version out sometime in the not so far away future that at least has the ability to open an existing character and edit it, so you can work on a character over a period of days instead of all at once without being able to close the program (nessonite’s idea). I'm sure there will be more improvements to come, but it would be nice to see some other characters out there for motivation!

-> TheaterViewer

Nessonite's suggestion is quite sound, and didn't notice it before. Doing a char in one go is, well, tasking. 🙂

Would it be possible to open a char in "editor" mode? Right now it'd be a useful feature.

About art: I didn't want to impose myself, but you can tell me if you need pics. I'm not very consistent, but you'd have pics hasslefree. 🙂

Just ask.
