The short answer is yes, but only as a novelty.

Until the 1970's, I had never seen a woman with hairy armpits. At first, it looked really gross, but after a while, I got used to it. I still prefer shaven armpits. Around 1975, I had approximately this conversation with a woman who was going out with me:

"Is there any reason that you don't shave under your arms?"

"Is there any reason that you don't shave your beard off?"

"No, I would need a reason _to_ shave my beard."

"And I would need a reason to shave under my arms. And that somebody else thinks it looks better that way is not a reason."

End of coversation. Unless asked, I have learned never to give advice to a woman on grooming/appearance. If asked, it is usually safe to say that she looks very beautiful the way she is.

I never really recovered from Paula Cole. I guess hair is just something I associate with masculinity. Actually, Krokus...it's not just your opinon...it's my opinion, too. While I am generally into all things related to tickling, the "N word" (nasty) pretty much sums this one up for me. I like hairy armpits on women and I don't understand why it grosses people out. Not liking it, okay, but grossing out? Why that? In older Italian and French movies you'll still see pretty women having hairy armpits. I'll give you examples!

In the past I used to be grossed out by it myself, but I guess it's culturally learned. I had one girlfriend who didn't shave her underarms and was shamelessly about it. Maybe that has made me learn to appreciate it until this day. It sort of became a symbol of rebelliousness toward the current beauty ideal of baldness for me.
You might disagree with me, but if more women were to leave their pits unshaved, you wouldn't be grossed out at all! And of course stuppled and bald pits are very pretty.
Used to be not a taboo in France and Italy, but is becoming it quickly (has become it).

By the way, it's since some years you can publicly say you find some particular feet sexy here in Belgium. Used to be a taboo as well sometime ago. Hairy female armpits are a taboo though and have been since at least the 70s.

To conclude with another example, the Laughing Gas Zone has done this as well with a famous hairy armpit model, didn't receive the best reception, but I commend them (the makers) for having experimented with it.
