All I can tell you is that you should be open and honest about it. It certainly isn't anything you should feel that you have to hide.
The only advice I can offer is to jump in head first. Tell her you have something important to say and that you need her to try to understand. Say it in whatever way happens to come out of your mouth and get it over with. You'll probably both feel better once you do.
