I used to do this every year, then it got away from me. And who doesn't love Christmas music? Come on, admit it. We won't tell. 😉

During the dark days of war, these Bing Crosby songs touched the hearts of Americans at home and overseas. Oh, it's ok to post the same songs by different artists, since they have been covered so many times.

Speaking of Bing... this one, with David Bowie (apparently recorded shortly before Bing passed)

Great choices guys. 🙂 I had a Gene Autry album with these songs on it, and we wore it out.

The great Arthur Fiedler & the Boston Pops

another from Trans-Siberian

Love TSO....but my favorite has always been Happy Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon

Iffff I hear this song just one more time oh ru pa bum bum...

IIII might just killlll someone oh ru pa bum bum...

Rudolph is in my nightmares too oh ru pa bum bum...

So much that I'm hungry for venison stew oh ru pa bum bum...oh ru pa bum bum...oh ru pa bum bum.

Two versions of the same song from the Nutcracker

The kids in my grade 2 class who had lost their front teeth had to sing this song for the Christmas concert at our school lol

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl

Let's go back......way back....a hundred years and more....the ghosts of Christmases past.....

Henry Burr: Hark, The Herald Angels Sing (1907)

Trinity Choir: O Little Town Of Bethlehem (1916)

Haydn Quartet: Silent Night, Hallowed Night (1905)

Edison Male Quartette: Sleigh Ride Party (with earliest known recording of "Jingle Bells") (1898)

(I have a whole collection of early recordings of Xmas music, if anyone would like to hear them, PM me.)

'Net, those blew me away. To think they have survived so many years, amazing!

Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell sing Silver Bells. From the 1951 Paramount Pictures film The Lemon Drop Kid. The singing Santa is William Frawley, known to most as Fred Mertz from I Love Lucy.

I know.....something literally out of time......eerie. Would bring a tear to the most hardened criminal. So happy you feel the same way, B-man!

"Silver Bells" is always a favorite and that clip was so cute! They sing it beautifully, never saw it before, thanks!. Yet another Xmas song written by Jewish songwriters, ho ho ho! ( "The Christmas Song", "White Xmas", "I'll Be Home For Xmas", "Santa Baby", "Sleigh Ride", "Winter Wonderland" and "Silver Bells"....all composed by Jewish songwriters.I love that, for many reasons, hehehe......)

Here's my personal fave version of "Silver Bells", if I may. So classy, soulful......and totally seasonal!

Earl Grant: Silver Bells

And keeping with a theme of Jewish Xms songs sung by great R&B singers!:

The Ravens: White Christmas
Every year they play The Drifters fantastic 1953 version of "White Christmas", but they were actually using The Ravens' earlier hit arrangement as the jumping-off point. I actually prefer The Drifters' version, but it's interesting to hear the Ravens......it's 1948 and the roots of doo-wop are more than evident.

Obviousy Nat "King" Cole has the definitive rendition of "The Christmas Song". But after Nat's recording, this is my all-time favorite version, hands down. In fact, it's almost too good. Grab a hanky.

Big Dee Irwin & Little Eva: The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)

If it's a Bugman Christmas party.....gotta bring a case of the blues!

Freddie King: I Hear Jingle Bells

Amos Milburn: Christmas (Comes But Once A Year)

......and nothing says Christmas on the TMF like a couple of randy Santas! I listen to these songs and envision a lot of pokes, girlfriends and wives being pulled onto Santa's lap, the whole bit....ho ho ho!

Rufus Thomas: I'll Be Your Santa

Albert King: Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'

I heard these on the way home.

No Christmas music thread is complete without Greensleeves.

How it may have sounded in the 16th century.

A contemporary version.

Hey 'Net, thanks for the Blue Christmas. 😀
